they have a popper on the bottom layer which is obviously supposed to tuck under my boot, but what do I do with it? I ended up untucking them in the end and getting cold ankles, but the popper just dug into me.

Confused.

  1. Im confused too, what the h**l is a popper?  Do you mean a button?  First of all, you are not supposed to tuck ANYTHING into your ski boot.  Whoever told you that should be dragged down the mountain by a runaway Moose.  Tucking stuff in will only cut off the circulation in your foot, or cause a pinch point on your ankle, both of which are painful.

Im confused too, you will have to explain a bit more before I can help you out.

  2. Are you describing a snow cuff with a snap fastener?  The cuff goes over the upper portion of the boot to keep the snow out of the boot.  If you are describing a stirrup that goes under your foot and went into the boot. If this is what you have, get a new pair of pants, since that design was obsoleted in the late 1970's.

  3. Well if your describing what I think, that isn't supposed to be tucked in. You should clip it on the outside of your boot.
