  1. go to www.epa.gov

    search for guidance

and bug the s*** out of your town grand pooh-bah's until they start a program.

  2. Why not go to a couple of business (I don't know just how small your town is) and see if they will make recycle bins for free. If not, maybe ask for donations for raffles to raise the money to get someone to make them. When they are made, distribute them to each and every household with a leaflet stating what can and can't be put in them.

What I can't help you with is where you would send it all and how it would get there. Maybe phone the nearest recycling plant and ask them if you had recyclable items, would they pick them up.

  3. What about approaching the local schools to form a campaign to start local recycling efforts.  Have you called your local city council and asked why you don't have recycling service in your town?  Maybe you could circulate some petitions to let them know that residents would like to start recycling.  What you really need is some public pressure.  Round up your friends and family and start spreading the word.

Good luck!  You can do it!

  4. I live in a suburban town also and I hate that we don't have a recycling center either. My family still recycles though. About every two weeks we get out bins of cans, glass and plastic together and take it to the larger city near us and recycle there. Its kind of out of the way and I hate using all that gas to go that far but we're recycling and that's what matters most.
