  1. yes they may, and with this the hamster will probably have shorter life spent cause the sense of the snake gives pressure to the hamster.

the hamster will also get easily nervous because it sense the danger all the time.

  2. Your hamster has NEVER been attacked by a snake and doesn't know what a snake is. It will fear the sudden movement of a strike but if the hamster can't SEE the snake you do not have a problem. Also snakes have little scent. Now for the other part. You don't need to worry about the snake getting "nippy" because it smells hamster. I have for more than 20 years kept my rodents, snakes, lizards, turtles, insects, arachnids, and three birds in the same room.  EDIT Nippy snakes are usually either very young, not handled enough, or hungry.

  3. I don't know if your hamster is scared. I do know that if the hamster is in the same room your snake is always hunting. With the constant scent of prey in the air your snake is more likely to nip at you when you go into its enclosure. I had a friend who kept his rodent tanks to close to the snake tanks at his store and all the snakes were terrible biters till he moved the set up.

  4. Ummm, i dont know if they can sense each other, but neither of them is capable of leaving the cage right? I guess its pretty okay..

  5. They can smell each other, but if they can't see each other, I don't think the hamster will be frightened.

  6. Yes, both have an incredibly good sense of smell.  And yes, your hamster is probably terrified.

  7. they can smell each other if they are kept close together.  this will probably make your hamster nervous and it might make your snake nippy with you if your snake can smell hamster when you interact with him...the best thing to do is just put them in separate rooms...if you can keep the hamster in one end of the house and the snake in the other end of the house things should be just fine.
