My snare drum skin has smashed. How do i patch it up until my set of skins arrive?

  1. I'm not a percussionist, but recall the cries of anguish during my drum & bugle days when a snare-drummer would "pop" a skin.  I recall helping them "patching" a skin... they would have pieces of old drum heads, 2-3 times the size of the hole, and would patch it with that skin, and GAFFERS tape.

    Gaffer's tape is LIKE duct-tape, but MUCH better: no residue, better adhesion, and not slippery.  It IS more expensive though.
