My social security number has leaked out and i think someone is using it, what are the ways to look out for it

i was trying to check my credit score online and they wouldnt give it to me because of some ¨shady¨doings last year. they said that i tried purchasing a house! i still live with my parents and that thougt didnt even cross my mind. what are some of the things people could do if they had my social secruity number.

You need to contact all three of the major credit reporting agencies and request a copy of your credit report .

IF your credit is being compromised ; you need to see the Prosecuting Attorney in your area ASAP .....

Also; put a security block on your credit ... this means that YOU have to give permisssion in writting before your credit can be ran ......

1. contact the credit agencies and obtain your current credit report.

2. if you see some information which is not correct- try to correct them with the credit agencies.

3. make police report if somebody was used your credit or social security .

4. put HAWK ALERT on your credit so if somebody will try to obtain any credit using your info.- the creditors will have contact you before they will make credit decision.

Yeah, you can call the credit bureaus, and you can get free copies of your credit report(s) from www.annualcreditreport.com

I believe you can also ask the credit bureaus to "freeze" your credit so no one can use anything, for a small fee.

Yeah, call the credit bureau.  It may not be a case of your social security number being stolen and just a mistake.  My husband found some stuff on his credit report that wasn't his and also wasn't even close to his name, it just ended up on his report by some goof-up.  

Call and ask them about it, they will be able to help you figure out what to do.
