  1. Hi,

It sounds like you have drought stress. You shouldn't re-seed just yet because it is still pretty hot. I recommend that you wait a couple of weeks, probably mid to late August. And what you want to do is Aerate your lawn really well, and re-seed heavily. Then you will want to apply a winter fertilizer to your lawn, and a soil conditioner. Your lawn will come back next year thick and healthy. I would recommend contacting a lawn care company in your area for a regular lawn program next year. I am the owner of TropicGreen Lawn & Tree Care in denver, so I am pretty familiar with this. If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask. 2. I'd be concerned as to why it turned yellow, not enough water?

But, no you cannot simply put grass seed on the ground and expect it to grow.  You need to loosen the soil to a depth of 1 - 2 inches.  Spread the seed and cover it with something to keep it moist.  Straw is commonly used (not hay, it contains weeed seeds) and keep it wet.  It cannot dryout at anytime during germination, or it won't germinate.  Then continue to water daily until at least the first mowing, typically 3-4 weeks

  3. just water it your probably not getting alot of rain so water daily and watch the news as to not over water it becuase its less liekly to rain in the summer seasons
