I've been giving him 2 tbsp of mineral oil a day. His doctor wants to get him to the point of having liquid poo, but with him in kindergarten half day i'm afraid he'll have an accident and other kids will tease him. we give him a ton of fiber and plenty of liquids, we've limited his dairy, it's been going on for 2 years and i'm worried about first grade next year. I've thought about giving him miralax, any suggestions will be welcome!

  1. My son is taking Miralax now for  constipation.   The bottle says that it's for those over 17 years old.    If under 17, contact your doctor..  My doctor suggested it for my son who is 14 but he's as big as most adults.   Ask your doctor if it's appropriate for your 6 year old.

I wanted to mention something as far as accidents are concerned.    When my son was in kindergarten, he had a diarrhea accident.   He was in the computer room and took too long to get to the bathroom.    The teacher peeked her head out of the room to tell him to quit running down the hall.   That is when she noticed his accident.   Our kindergarten rooms have their own private bathrooms and she had him sit in there until she could contact me at work.   His classmates were still in the computer room.  45 minutes later I was at  the school with a change of clothes.    I had to clean him up and get him dressed in the little bathroom.   Thank God for the endless supply of paper towels in there.    None of the other kindergarteners even knew about his accident.

When I was in 1st grade there was a boy who often peed in his pants but I can't remember anyone making fun of him for it.   It was as if the other kids weren't even paying attention.  If your son had an accident at school, it may not be awful as one would think.    In kindergarten it's not that unusual.    Of course, nobody wants that to happen but the teachers of the younger students have dealt with this before.

  2. well I know this won't be fun for you or him but he might need to wear a pull-up diaper to school....so he will have protection if he does have an accident but if he can make it to the potty....he will be able to go.....you might wanna inform his teacher in private as well

maybe medicine will help..but I am not an expert on meds....so i am really of no help with the medicine thing
