  1. Talk to your son's teacher. Learn to use positive reinforcement. Give him attention when he successfully comp lets the task at hand.   Continuously talking and punishment just doesn't work.  Reward him for his success rather than "harping" at his inattentiveness.

This is something that you will have to learn to do and it's going to take what I call "P", "P" and "P".

    Patience, Persistence and Perseverance

  2. Its sounds like ADD, but you should definitely check with his doctor to make sure. The doctor should give both you and his teacher a questionnaire about his behavior and work habits at home and school to pinpoint the problem. Whether it's ADD or just boredom, until you can get in to see the doctor, you can break his homework up into sections. Let him work for a little while, then give him a break to play or do something else. When the time is up, he can come back and finish his homework.  I remind myself that kids need time to play and get out all the excess energy so they can concentrate when the time comes to study. I have a 9 year old with the same problem you describe and this works for him.

  3. Perhaps he has some sort of attention deficit disorder. Have you tried taking him to a doctor to be examined for this type of malady?

If it isn't that, then it could be that he is just bored with the work. Why don't you try to encourage him by showing some enthusiasm when he does something good. Start off by asking him what homework he has to do and by asking some questions about the subjects that he has to work on. Get in a conversation with him about it and tell him you want to look at his homework when he is done to see if he might need any help. Then when he is finished you can either show him how he can do better or tell him how good he did. That way at least the homework is getting done and you've started to do something to make him aware of the fact that when he does his work he can expect a positive result at home.

  4. lol i have the same problem too...im a good kid...but i never finish school work! u shoudl try talking to him and telling him tht work is great!! and fun!! um, u should also tell him if he does his homework..u would give him a treat!

  5. I agree with lacerper's answer. You need to set some rules and regular and help him finish his projects and exams if he needs help.

You need to be patient with him untill he figures it all. ADD is just an excuse for parents to give their kids a label for their problems and their pareting skills or the lack there of.

    We are over medicated.
