my 10 year old son is a lifelong bedwetter. He wears pullups at night and is proud of it. My question is, how can he respond to friends who tease him about it? It's becoming a real problem.

  1. There is medication out there for it. My daughter is 7 and still wears GoodNites, I don't want her on medicine, but he is older and being teased it is something to at least go discuss with your doctor.

My only thought for a response is "eventually I will out grow this your need to make fun of others to feel better about yourself shows some major insecurities."

  2. WHy are his friends teasing him?  How do they even know about it?  I wet the bed until i was 14, it was caused by a sleepdisorder where i just couldn't wakeup and would dream i was in the bathroom, my mind couldn't tell the difference.

  3. I'm 13 years old and I wet my bed.

I dont wear pull-ups anymore, because they ind of made me feel like I didn't have to use the bathroom; I could just stay where I was.

My mom bought a water-proof beed sheet for me, and I feel the "wet" and feel

    A) gross

    and

    B) guilty that my mom has to wash it so I either

         1. stop for a while

         2. wash it my self

         3. 1&2.

all in all it works better for me.

(and once he stops wetting the bed, he'll stop being ridiculed. Honestly, my [closest] friends are the only one who know, and they're all very cool about it. As he's a boy however, it's going to be h**l. boys LOVE torturing other boys at that age...

This is going to sound harsh... but it actually does build character...... [bad elementary school experiences...])

  4. Have you talked to his doctor?

Maybe look into a bedwetting alarm. We used one on our 6 year old and it was literally days when he stopped. Partly, because of the training the alarm provides and partly because he was in underwear and couldn't just be "lazy" about getting up and going. It wasn't cheap, but in the long run a lot cheaper than buying pull ups all the time.

We used a product from the Bedwettingstore.com

They have a lot of things and advice. It's worth a look, I think.

  5. Unforunately, kids this age can be very critical of others and mean!!! If he is close friends with these kids and you know their moms, try having a talk with them.
