  1. Why not take your 9 year old son out for a special day, or evening just the two of you-- and even make it a once a month event. Also listen when he wants to talk with you, don't be afraid to give him a hug and kiss, and then let him do his big brother duties for his little brother.

  2. I had the same problem with my daughter when I had my youngest son.  I found that including the older child in the everyday things you do with the younger child helps.  For example: fixing the younger ones lunch, tucking him in for his nap, etc.  Then be sure to set aside a special time for just you and the 9 year old to spend together.  I don't mean you have to take him out and spend money, just watch his favorite cartoon with him or bake cookies while the 2 yr old takes a nap, things like that.  It will make him feel important and special and if you haven't already explain to him how just as you spend time with him that its important that you spend time with his brother too.  I'm sure it will work out.  Good luck!

  3. When our second and third child were born we 'pre-conditioned' the older ones that they were getting a wonderful present of a brother or sister. Funny that the second one was born on the first ones birthday. Anyway we included them in helping, such as a small back pack to carry diapers and supplies when we went out. We told them that they were the older brother or sister and that they had to teach their younger siblings all the things that they learned. We allowed them to help change diapers, fetching a fresh one, going for the powder, etc....

Now our oldest daughter just had her second and the older one(4yo) is running around telling everyone 'This is my brother Mark and I am the big brother and the teacher'. He helps with a lot of things and his only frustration is the his little brother is too small to take out to play in his sand box.
