He was not driving but was fined for the fact that he was drinking underage. He is now 19 and looking for employment. The last job he applied for asked him if he had any previous fines, felonies, etc and he answered no and they said because he lied he did not get the job. He thought that because he was a minor he was entitled to withhold this information and also how could a job get this information because he was a minor at the time? In the future should be disclose this information on a job application? It seems that it would prevent him from getting the job however if he lies I know that it will definitely disqualify him. I thought jobs were only interested in knowing about felonies and not minor crimes such as underage drinking. He was only applying for an office job and was turned down for this reason alone.

  1. They ran a motor vehicle check.  It's going to show up on that.

Underage drinking is not a minor crime.  It's a major red flag, as minors who drink tend to be adults who drink.   And drunks make rotten employees.

He's going to have to be up front with them.

  2. He should tell the truth. Maybe you can get his record expunged

  3. yes by law they check your complete record history of any kind of tickets no matter if they are only 2 or more years old

  4. Of course he should tell the truth. If he has been working in a job for x years and they find out, no matter how good a worker he is - he'll get fired. Who wants a mistrustful worker in ones company?

  5. watch thiz vid real good for wat u talkin about

  6. He was turned down for telling a lie, not for drinking.  If he told the truth, he might have been hired.  A single misdemeanor (this word means a crime that is not a felony) that is properly disclosed will not always prevent hiring.  However, any alcohol-related crime may make an employer worry that he may have a drinking problem, be an alcoholic, come to work drunk, or steal company property to pay for alcohol.

It is very important to read the question carefully.  It is asks only for felonies, he can answer no.  If it asks for all violations of the law, he must answer yes.  Most ask only for crimes, which includes misdemeanors, but technically does not include "infractions" (this word means illegal acts that are not crimes; the most common is a parking ticket).  Check whether underage drinking is an infraction or a crime.

  7. minor or not, that stuff stays on your record for all to see...it doesn't disappear or "hide" just because you're not a minor anymore ("you" in general).... he should have told the truth, the incident was only 2 years prior and thus he probably remembered it, and willingly didn't put it on the applic.

Companies even look into people's facebook/myspace profiles these days to see what kind of stuff kids are pulling . . .

the truth is... it may have seemed minor to you, or like you want to forget it, but we aren't "innocent until proven guilty" anymore... we gotta prove ourselves to the world...

this will stay with him for a while, the only thing he can do, is NOT DO IT AGAIN...don't get any drinking related violations...otherwise you're building a history of misconduct and nobody wants to hire a drunkard....

on future applications (no matter how far in the future), check yes... LEGALLY he can not be denied a position just because he checks yes....OBVIOUSLY being truthful is better than trying to make it go away.
