He'll be 7months old in 2 days & he has the NUK training cup, he grabs it fine & drinks but the water comes out fast so he always chokes =X & i'm wondering if it's normal since he's just learning, or does it mean he's not ready for it yet?

Thanx, God Bless

  1. HE SHOULDN'T NEED TO USE A SIPPY CUP UNTIL HE'S ONE BUT IF THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT GET A SIPPY CUP WITH A SOFT NIPPLE THIS SHOULD HELP

  2. He may just not be use to getting so much at one time..you would think a training cup though would be okay but maybe it is still too soon for him...keep him on a regular small bottle till he is a pro and he learns to swallow and suck at the same time...wow that didnt sound very good did it, if we all did that we wouldnt be here talking about this. LOL...I would just give him some more time before the sippy cup.

  3. Make sure it's on the slow flow side with the turtle so you won't have that problem and if it doesn't have that thing in it don't use it, if he still does it then he's just not ready.

  4. That's normal, my daughter did that constantly when she first started with her sippy, around 6 or 6 1/2 months old, she's now 8 months and a pro with it, I never put the spill proof plugs in , that way she learns to control the flow of water herself.  Good Luck, it's always great fun!

  5. free flow is definately better when learning, but try an anti spill cup, the flow isnt as fast and he controls the speed. my daughter will take a sippy, but she seemed to only take it a few weeks the started picking up a sports cap bottle and drinking form that.

  6. Honestly, every baby chokes on water. =]

It's okay.. Just try some juice (Gerber has apple, pear, and white grape - my daughter loves them all), fill the cup with half juice and half water. Try a sip, and see if it needs more juice to cut back on the water flavor. He should be okay after that.

When my daughter started with water, I added just a tiny bit of sugar to it, so she would understand how to take the water. Every other day, I would cut back on how much sugar I put in the cup, and before I knew it, she was drinking regular water just fine!! Try this method, it just might work for your son. =]

  7. You know I will be interested if you get any good answers on here. My little boy turned 1 today and he has just now started to actually like water and juice so its kind of like he is just now learning to use a sippy cup (even though we have given one to him since he was about 8 months.) He does the exact same thing. I think he is just too used to having to suck really hard at his bottle, and now is going to have to learn to ease up a little bit.

One thing that I have learned that helped - I got him some of those sippy cups with the spill proof straws. He doesn't choke with those. We also give him soft spout and hard spout sippy cups and to be honest he does the exact same with both, so I don't think that really makes much of a difference. At least not in our case.

I think its just gonna take some time and practice. They will both get the hang of it. :)
