My 8 yr old will fall asleep in the car and when I wake him to go inside he's really disoriented and cries for about an hour or so. Any ideas of what is going on with him? He is really lost.

  1. When u take a child out of his sleep it sorta trama tises him. the body cant take being abrubtly woken up. it reacts to this pretty weird, espeacially with kids.  When u take him out of the car prehaps u can carry him while hes asleep out of the car and lay him on his bed!

  2. I think it's nothing to worry about. He might just be getting to some serious REM sleep, and it sucks to be taken out of it! Just talk him through it ... i suspect this trend won't last.

  3. i used to do that when i was younger if i was woken up in the car to get ready for school just woken up in general i'd start crying i think i out grew it when i was about 11 or 12 kinda old i know but i have no idea why adn the doctor said there was no real reason why i was doing it but i wouldnt cry for an hour only like 5 minz or so

  4. How are you waking him up? Is he sleeping well at night, or overtired? Is he too heavy to carry in from the car? Is he a sound sleeper? Need more info.

  5. People who wake up sad are depressed. If it's just when he's been in the car, I don't know.

He may have a sleep disorder.

I know that some kids can look like they are wide awake and cry or do other things, but they are still asleep. I know I've always screamed and talked in my sleep. I also eat and can carry on a conversation. Only the people who know me really well know if I'm asleep or not.

  6. Never heard of that, you should contact your doctor!

  7. They may be night-terrors.  Night terrors seem to happen when a child has not been asleep long enough to hit REM sleep.  He is asleep, but may appear to be awake, and will have no recollection of it the next day.
