  1. Kinda garden is for parents who go to work or to get rid of them yes they learn faster but when your child is young as that always remember it is an important time of their lives and you only get one change before they grow up saver the moment keep him home as long as you can Dave

  2. wait, my parents put me in early and I think it was a mistake.  I'm 18 now and I realize how I would have more time to do everything right

  3. I gather from your question that your son currently has an IEP. What usually happens is that an articulation or end of the year meeting will be held to discuss kindergarten options for him. He may be placed in regular ed if he has a mild impairment or in a kindergarten that assists delayed learners if his deficits are more serious.

At any rate, he will be placed in the "least restrictive environment," in which he can succeed. You will be a part of that meeting and the decision making. Rather than go into the meeting blind, go to the Wright's Law website so that you understand the law as it relates to a child with special needs. You will need to begin advocating for your son and knowledge is power. It is a great website.

Developmentally delayed is a label given to children under six years old who do not have an obvious issue, like autism or an orthopedic condition. This is done because it is very hard to test for intelligence and language impairments at an early age.

The school will have to test your child prior to his 6th birthday. At that time everyone will have a better understanding of the disability and can give him the correct services.

If they have not called an IEP by the end of the year, then you need to call it to discuss placement. Ask his teacher if this is going to happen and if she says "no," then you need to request a meeting in May. They sometimes try to do a placement shuffle in which the articulation team just meets, but most schools have a meeting with parents. Its the law!
