my son fell down the steps at the park today. I feel just awful. He has a bruise forming on his cheek that you can even see the design of the step in it. I've tried putting an icepack wrapped with a towel on it, but he won't sit still for me to keep it on. Any other suggestions, so just let it be.

  1. Isn't it awful when they fall and get a bruise? I know how you feel! My son usually won't let me do the ice thing. I usually just try the best I can with that and just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get all swollen up or anything. It usually takes a few days and then its good as gone. Just keep an eye on it and if my son does fall and hit anywhere on his head I make sure he stays awake for a couple hours afterwards or as long as possible, just to be on the safe side. Hope the lil one is all better soon!

  2. If he's not interested in the icepack, just leave it. It's not necessary.

  3. My daughter fell last week and hit her head on the cement. She had a huge goose egg, and she would'nt allow me to put ice on it either. By the end of the night it went completly down. I would just watch it and watch your son(like if he acts normal) if so he should be just fine.

  4. Give the child some Tylenol or Motrin then take a washcloth soaked in white vinegar and put it in the freezer till chilled then place it on his cheek (if it hasn't been really long since it had happened - an hour or so). You can always try an ice cream if he holds it on his cheek (I don't usually like to bribe but...) or wait till he falls asleep. Otherwise let time take it's course. If it was a hard fall, make sure the child doesn't have anything fractured (unlikely) but keep in mind that it may be painful to chew for a few days.

  5. I would just give him some Tylenol or Motrin and leave him be. My daughter fell a few weeks ago and hit her eye on the leg of my computer chair. Talk about a mess. Her entire eye changed colors for 2 weeks afterward. I gave her Tylenol every so often after that and she's fine now. Unless it really starts to swell I wouldn't worry about ice.

  6. what about a wrapped popsicle?

  7. they make a stuffed animal that actually has an ice pack hidden inside so they dont know its there.  that may be one way to get him to hold it.  dont worry, eventually the bruise will fade on its own.
