He got stitches, not the glue or the dissolving ones.. just regular stitches. Well The doctor said I can wet it after 24 hours. I have cleaned around it, and I will wait the 24 hours, i was just wondering how long if any of you have gone through this have waited? and it is just like sponge it or can he actually go the spirnklers at a park? (not taking him to the sprinklers but its the only way I thought of describing what I meant.)

Thanks!

  1. I think you could probably rinse it with water in the shower or something, but be gentle with the washcloth. I would wait maybe 3 days before you let him stick his head right next to the sprinkler, but he could run through them tommorrow.

My little girl sliced her hand open a few months ago. She seemed to know how much to use it!

  2. When my 17 month old son got stitches about 3 months ago in the same place, they said keep it dry for 24 hours and then after that just make sure it doesn't get soaked. It can get wet, but you would not want to keep it wet and soften up the area b/c a scab won't form then. They need the scab to close the wound from the outside. We did everything like normal in the tub, but would pat the wound dry when he got out. Best wishes!

  3. Ditto the above answer. Follow doctors orders. Keep an eye out for infection ( redness growing around the area.)

  4. My daughter had stitches in the same area and after it started to heal she pulled the stitches out. SO she has a scar one way and 4 little scars going the other way. So you may want to keep it moist later on. I use Tucks pads for my kids. Those things are wonderful! When I had my episiotimy I used them on my stitches. Then I started using them for more things. They have witch hazel in them to numb pain. they are safe. the doctor even told me i could use them on my daughters blood blister that we had to pop. They are great for stitches though. just wait until you can get them wet.

  5. I think they can get wet like in the sprinkers because he probably isn't going to get that wet on his eyebrow in sprinklers.  Just be a little more careful when you wash his hair. You can have him lean his head back when you rinse it.

  6. Twenty-four hours means just that.  It's not a suggestion.  It is a rule the prevent infection.  Imagine what kind of a scar that would be.
