My 2year old toddler son gets sick each time he goes to the daycare. He started in June and was fine for about 2 weeks than started catching the sniffles and than would get sick on and off but it wasn't until mid july he got worse and I took him out for 3 weeks for him to recover which he did fine. Than a week ago i decided to put him back in and what do you know he's sick again with a high fever. He only goes for 3 days out of the week. Is his immune system weak? What will happen to him in preschool?

Please help! Worried Mom

  1. It's very normal, nothing is wrong with your son! My little brother is in a special needs preschool and he's pretty healthy and every time he goes he ends up missing a few days for the sniffles or a tiny stomach bug. It's just because you're son isn't used to being around all those children and there are so many things in the air. But, no need to worry ^_^'

  2. It's totally normal...especially the first year or so.  It's actually building up his immune system, every kid goes through it...better to get it over with now while he is young.  Good luck...hope this helps.  From a mother of 4 :)

  3. He's being exposed to all sorts of new germs and needs to build up immunity. If it doesn't happen now it will happen when he starts Kindergarten. If it's any consolation, it happens to first time day care staff, too.Hang in there, it will stop soon.

  4. it always happens in day-cares.

besides keeping him at home there's really nothing you can do.

  5. tell me about it!  my son goes to school. and hes always sick. and it also takes him weeks to recover not to mention when he gets sick he gets my 1 year old sick. and its so tuff. then when they finally recover he has a new virus again.  its like i wish the parents wouldnt be so selfish and keep their kids home when their sick. so we dont have to deal with the b/s after its not right. so i totally know where ur comming from its tuff.

  6. Let him go to the daycare and let him stay there. If you put him in an environment that his immune system is not accustomed to his body must build up an immunity to the new germs being carried around by the other kids. It is common in daycare centers. Up until now he has only been around your family and friends. He needs exposure to other people to build up his immune system. If his preschool is a different environment he will likely get a cold then, too. It's normal and I'm surprised the daycare teachers didn't tell you this.
