  1. He should still be able to attend the school. They probably will want to interview him, but a lot of times, private schools are apt to taking in students with learning disabilities. A friend of mine, who has ADHD, lives in Maryland and went to school at a private school called Spalding. Good luck.

  2. Knowing as much as I do about Waldorf, I'd doubt very much that they would not allow him. They tend to be welcoming of everybody. Of course, do understand they may put restrictions on things at home, like no TV or video game or other screen time and will likely encourage you to have only natural items for him to use (beeswax crayons, toys made of natural materials--no plastic). They believe it interferes with a child's development and proper connection to the world around them.

  3. 1st of all, make sure your child is on the 504 program at school. It is a federal program and private schools are not allowed to discriminate against the plan.

  4. My sister who's 10 has dyslexia and goes to a pvt school. They dont really care about kids with disabilities. There is no special program or anything....the teachers know and are more understanding with her but that's it. She had to go to the public school district to get tested

  5. I'm a teacher at a public school, and ADHD isn't really considered a disability.  A learning disability is really when there's a big discrepency between a child's ability and performance.  I have kids with ADHD in my class, but they don't have a disability and are not entitled to a 504 plan or an IEP.  However, parents CAN request their child be tested for a learning disability through a couple written and oral tests.  Schools are NOT ALLOWED to diagnose or suggest ADHD issues with parents.  I can say "Johnny has a very hard time focusing and paying attention"  I cannot say "I think Johnny might be ADHD.

Another thing is you don't have to tell them--- it's your right.  There's also no absolute indicator for ADHD.  When kids are "diagnosed", there's no hard data or proof, it's more like a collection of information followed by a diagnosis.  Last, a colleague of mine has a son with ADHD and she pulled him from public school and sent him to a private school because he wasn't getting the support he needed and they were more than willing to accept him and help him.  Keep in mind that private schools need your money to keep their doors open.  Hope this helps!  :)
