  1. give some motrin and place a luke warm wash cloth on his head.  there is a bug going around all over that has been causeing the vomiting and shivering.  that should be over in 24 hours or less.  if he becomes almost unresponsive then contact the doc as long as he just appears sick he whould be ok if fever continues to get worse and doesnt show inprovement or he appears to get worse go to doc

  2. i would say yes just to be safe ☺

  3. Get off the computer, and take yur child to the doc ASAP. U R the parent

Here are the situations that usually warrant an urgent call to your doctor. If none of these fit your current situation, then you probably dont need to page your doctor. Follow our treatment advice below and call your doctor during office hours.

        * If your infant is 6 weeks or younger, and has a fever of 101 or higher, this is considered a medical emergency. Your doctor should evaluate your infant right away, either during business hours, or in an emergency room after hours. Do not give any fever-reducing medications in this situation (you don't want to hide the fever until after a doctor has evaluated your baby). Be sure to confirm any fevers with a rectal thermometer (if available) before contacting your doctor.

        * Infants age 7 weeks to three months with a fever over 101 warrant an appointment with your doctor within the next several hours. You generally dont need to page your doctor in the middle of the night in this situation if the office opens within the next few hours. Simply follow our recommendations on treating fever below and call your doctor in the morning. If it is the early evening you should probably page your doctor, since the office wont be open until the following day. Be sure to confirm any fevers with a rectal thermometer (if available) before contacting your doctor.

        * If your child of any age has one or more of the following symptoms, you should probably call your doctor right away:

o High fevers of 104 (40 Celcius) or higher that don't come down to 101 or 102 (38.3 to 38.9 Celcius) with the treatment measures below.

o Lethargy this means more than your child just isn't acting right or laying quietly in your arms. Lethargy actually refers to your child being limp, lifeless, unresponsive, or won't make eye contact.

o Irritability - this means more than just fussiness. A truly irritable child will cry for hours with minimal verbal interaction, and is almost impossible to console.

o Meningitis symptoms are high fever, stiff neck or pain in the back of the neck, vomiting, headache, bright light hurts the eyes. Before paging your doctor, you should also look up any other symptoms your child has, such as cough, vomiting, rash, etc and read those guidelines to determine your best course of action

Heat exhaustion usually entails a temperature of 101 to 104, headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and fainting. It is important to recognize and treat heat exhaustion immediately. Treatment includes cooling, fans, drinking liquids, and applying ice over the groin and armpits). People typically respond well but prompt treatment is necessary in order to prevent the condition from progressing to heat stroke where treatment may no longer be effective.

Heat stroke is very serious. A person's temperature rises over 104 degrees and he or she has an altered mental status. 50% of those with heat stroke die from it. There are two types of heat stroke -- exertional, with profuse sweating, and classic, in which the skin is hot and dry.Classic heat stroke builds up over days and is most common in infants and in the elderly. It is a true emergency.

  5. ok not to be like rude or any thing but it would be stupid if u don't take him

  6. it depends on his other symptons and how old he is.  Have you tried motrin and a cool cloth

  7. ok. i deal with thease things all the time. what you need to do is cover him in alo, then wrap him up in a thick blanket [make sure he sweats] , then feed him hot food. if hes still sick in 24 hours then take him to the doctor.

  8. Yes, and that doesn't matter how old the child is.  He sounds like he has heat stroke.. go take him to the ER

  9. How old is he? I would say you should probably at least CALL the doctor because the armpit temperature is usually lower than oral or rectal. If he is really young, then I would definitely take him in.

  10. yes

  11. It depends on how old he is.  If he is only a couple years old, call the doc now.  Also if there are any neurological signs like being less alert or lethargic go now to the ER.  You want to treat the fever with any antipyretic, cool down with a lukewarm bath, drink plenty of clear liquids, and if not significantly better in 1 hour I would head into the ER after calling the doc.  Heat exhaustion is what this sounds like, heat stroke is much more severe with a temp upwards of 106.

  12. You should have taken him to the ER instead of getting on the computer.

  13. yea take him in to see the doc. or at least call and ask what could be going in.

  14. Don't panic.  Give him a fever reducer first, then call your doctor's emergency line if it doesn't start to go down in the next 20-30 minutes.

I've gone to the emergency room with fevers higher than that and they always told me to give them a fever reducer and wait for it to take effect before coming to the E.R.

PS...The other advice seems like it's coming from people who don't have children (at least some).

  15. Yeah get him checked out.

  16. go to the er

  17. you definitly need to go to the emergency room if the temp just came out of nowhere. Dehydration is verrryy serious and can make you very ill. If you dont get it treated your child could have to be hospitalized and hooked up to I.V's with fluid. A temp that high could also indicate some sort of infection. Thats a pretty high temp, and you would need to bring that down, with either some childrens tylenol or motrin, and a wet cool wash cloth on his body. Also take his clothes off, even though he will say he's cold, it's because his body is in shock right now. Also make sure to keep checking his temp, but really you should take him to the ER, especially if hes a young child.

  18. yea i would

  19. yes you should go to the doctors, if he's an infant i would even got o the emergency room.

  20. no i wouldnt. send him to bed and he'll be fine the next day:) have a great day mam

  21. yes, you should take a child to doctor when fever gets above 102. Go immediately!

  22. I think you should give him a spanking for getting sick and ruining your evening.

  23. u should

    the temperature isnt lethal yet

but if u dont get treatment itll get there

    use common sense

  24. I would say yes, you should probably at least call the doctor (or some providers have a service where you can call and talk to a nurse).  I can tell you, I have a young son with Autism and taking him to the doctor can be quite the adventure.  Here is what I have been told to do in those situations.  Obvisouly breaking the fever is the most urgent of the problems.  Try bathing your child in tepid water (about 85 degrees).  Also, you can alternate between administering Tylenol and ibuprofen every four hours to help reduce your child's fever. Alternating these meds will help to prevent accidental overdose, and sometimes the combination of the two will be more effective in bringing down your fever.  If the fever shows no signs of breaking, you need to get him to the doctor.  If he was in the sun all day he may be suffering from heat exhaustion.

  25. no - give him Children's Tylenol; in two hours check his temp.  If no improvement, give him Children's Motrin; you can alternate the two every 2 hours.  That's what the ER told me when I called with that same question when my son was a baby.

  26. absolutley

  27. I would at least CALL the doctor.. My brother had almost the same thing a few weeks ago.. hes 10 and he had a baseball game all day.. got dehydrated.. when he got home he was throwing up and had a headache his temp was 101 under the arm.. mom took him to the doc and they said kids can get really high temps even 104 doesn't harm them.. but it does adults.. still scares me though.. you should at least call no harm in that... and you will worry if you don't...

  28. yes...because a more accurate temp would register at least one degree higher.

  29. YES you should take him to the dr.  My dr told me that when you do the "under the arm temp" you have to add an extra degree so its actually 103 so you should go. Give him some pedialyte
