  1. First of all you need to decide what your definition of American Hero is. To me an American Hero is someone who has done something for the good of our country without any personal gain. I don't see many sports players as true American Heros. Too many of them play for the love of money not the love of the game. Any soldier that has served our country is a hero, anyone who invented something that bettered our world is a hero, anyone who has gone above and beyond to help those less fortunate, etc.  Maybe he could do a report on Tony Hawk, he is big in the extreme sports world but he has also done a lot of charity work as well. Try to find someone who has bettered our world. Too many kids these days thinks sports figures are heros just because they can hit more home runs or score more touchdown, or make more baskets. All the soldiers dying in Iraq, college kids trying to stop the killing in Darfur, people who have devoted their lives to ending civil rights injustices, anyone who does charity work of any kind, those are true American Heroes.

  2. Baseball - Babe Ruth.

My daughter did this last year as well, she was in 2nd grade.  My daughter did hers on Betsy Ross the maker of the first US Flag.

  3. My second grader just did a report like that, too.  Much smaller in scope, though - only a paragraph long.  He wrote it on my father, who served in WWII & the Korean War.

Do you have any heroes right there in your family?

  4. What about evil knievel =)

He likes 4 wheelers and he did many stunts in his day w/ them

    try that!

  5. I completely 100% agree with "Candi is Dandi".  Stop by the VFW or Legion with your digital camera and a note pad.  It will be a rewarding experience for you and your child.  Plus, you'll make someone else feel like a hero.

  6. An American Hero? How about a local war-vet???

  7. Joe DiMaggio was an american hero in baseball, so maybe that would insterest him.

  8. Maybe a baseball player...Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripkin

  9. Hi, what about using the everyday American Soldier. Just title it an American Soldier. My husband served in Iraq and      we have many friends still serving. They are not recognized enough for the sacrafices they make.

  10. Jackie Robinson- baseball player

    Paul Revere

  11. How about a true american hero? Try Benjamin Franklin. His scientific discoveries and political strategies are still being used today. Teach your child something about a real american hero. Baseball stars aren't hero's, they are roll models. It's not the same. BF is easy to get info on from the internet.

  12. How about Ryan White?

  13. Use a baseball player.

  14. You have lots of baseball suggestions.

    other ideas:

US Presidents - F D Roosevelt - only president to have 4 terms in office and lead the country through 2 world wars

Patrick Henry - "Give me liberty or Give me Death"

    Robert E. Lee

    Civil War Figures

Wild West Figures - US Marshals. John Wayne starred in a movie called True Grit about a US Marshal Rooster Cogburn. A true US Marshal was Wild Bill Hickock.

Learn about something new and historical together.

  15. How about doing a report on who started baseball. If he likes baseball it might interest him. To me he would be a hero because he came up with a sport that has greatly effected the pasttime of our country. HEre is a link to help you get started.
