My son has a speech disabilty /commincation disorder would this qualiflfy for ssi?

my son has has a serve to moderate speech problem for 4 years now /the only problem is they changed his iep from deleopmental delayed to communication disorder and plus he was held back last year he is up for a ssi review does he have a chance of keeping his benefits

  1. Who did the testing for DD?..If you disagree with this you can have him tested by someone else.  Also, since he has a communication disorder and possibly DD,  has he been tested for autism spectrum disorder.  (I worked with this population for 20 yrs.)  I would think that his benefits/or losing them would depend on how severe his disability is at the present time.  Obviously your income is low enough to get him a check because if your income was too high he would NOT qualify for a check regardless of his disability unless he was an adult.

    And please be as involved as you can to ensure that your son has the best quality of life possible.  A lot of parents sit back and expect others to do everything but we as parents of kids with disabilities need to do our part.  GL and god bless.


  2. once you are getting services - the benchmark is not as high if he has a continuing need.  In other words - the early help may have assited him but if he still has needs - he could continue to get speech services.  It is possible that as he has grown - there are other issue now too but that would need to be evaluated by a school team.
