  1. I worked in an orphanage that supported children with Autism, Aspergers being the extreme of the spectrum. It was often a lengthy process, from early symptoms, to an educational psychologists report that support should be given. Numerous agencies, including specialised paediatricians, compounded the parents -and child's problem, by exhausting all the relevant channels to offer a diagnosis. This long, drawn out, self serving prognosis often saw children suffer for 7/8 years before the right place could be found. By that time the child's EBD condition would take years to reverse. At Crowthorn, we admitted the worst only cases. The local authorities would pay for respite, term-time or full time care provision. The children lived on site, and, were accommodated 24/7 if necessary. All allowances were taken into consideration at this point because the children never left here until 18. Others, on respite care had continued social support. From leaving school, they continued to have this support. If you are the named guardian, you will get the allowance for him. I spent 15 years having the time of my life, working none stop, until it closed through Government policies.

  2. hi  my son was diagnosed with autism last year & im getting dla for him.  when your applying for it also apply for carers allowance for yourself as you are entitled to this also.  good luck

  3. Yes you can claim DLA you need to call the benefits advice line or have a look at the website I have listed below.  Be warned the forms you fill in are like War and Peace, they want to know how minutes this problem takes to solve and how many times a day!

They then have up to 12 weeks to complete the necessary checks and make the payments, so dont hold your breath.

We filled in the forms on the 11th of September and we are still waiting, but, they do backdate it.

  4. you can claim for asperges but you have to fill out forms that ask lots of questions about his condition and wat he is like in his daily life. they will  let you know weather you can start recieving dla also if they do start paying you dla then you might also be intitled to careers alowance

  5. get in touch with a welfare rights officer who should be able to tell you if you can. you should find them at your local council offices

  6. Yes you can claim DLA for your son. My Friends son has aspergers and she claimed for him.

  7. Sorry about your son and yes you can apply for DLA you can just telephone your local social security office and ask for the section and a form to be sent out to fill in.

It is a long form with many questions that are general repeated through out but worth filling in.

Put as much information as you can if you have a doctor or another professional for them to refer to to check put it.

Normaly they send a doctor out to check over your son more a questions type of things not pysical examination. he fills in the forms sends them back and then they decide if he is entitled to it you will be backdated from time you asked for form.

It depends on the form you filled what doctor has said and them as to what rate you get lowere middle or higher.

  8. Sorry , can't help but have a word with the citizens advice bureau they should be able to point you in the right direction.

    Best wishes

  9. My son has AS. Firstly phone the DLA on 0845 7123456 and ask them to send you the forms. I have always found  it very stressful and upsetting to answer the questions. I joined a local Aspergers support group and found that all of the parents found it as difficult as i did. I strongly recommend that you do the same. They can provide you with a lot of important information from education problems to special diets that you may never get to hear about otherwise. You will also have people to talk to who know exactly what you are going through. They may even know the name of the local outreach benefit worker for instance, who can help you fill out that awful form! Alternatively take them with you to the citizens advice bureau They also will help.

  10. Would advice to you get contact with your Local Carers centre and maze about claiming DLA.

If you care for a person who austic or disability you could claim Carer's Allowance and You do not have to be related to, or live with, the person you care for.

    I hope it was useful

  11. no, but sorry about the bad news

  12. I claim disability living allowance for my daughter who has Asperger syndrome. She also has other complex psychological and medical needs. The forms for DLA are a nightmare to fill in and you have to do them every few years. The best advice I can give you is to see a Welfare Rights Worker who can help you fill in the forms. These forms ask you to paint a really negative image of your child so it is well worth getting someone with experience to help you. Very few children get the full benefit but it is well worth putting in the claim even though it takes months for it to be decided. Good luck.
