My son has too many toys, and just keeps getting more, are there any ways of easy storage for a tiny room?

His room being a mess is driving me nuts, i need like affordable storage solutions so i can get it back to normal. It doesn't help that my partner just dumps everything (clean clothes etc) anywhere he feels like.

  1. What I got is a storage bucket. Go through and toss out what he doesn't play with, and give them to a neighbor. Then, organize all the big toys in your biggest toy box, and leave them out. Organize blocks, toy cars, race tracks, in separate boxes, I use just any old box I can get from a shoe box to whatever else I can find.. all those go in the closet. Stacked and labeled. This is my system, my son understands it, and we have limited space too so it works for us anyhow.

  2. easiest way is to send off your lil one to grandma's or a close reletive or friends house for a few hours.  go through toys, if its usable but he's not intrested in it, place in one pile to donate.  If it's missing parts, or broken, toss.  last pile is keepers.    We have 7 kids in total, But 5 live with us.  Organization has saved my sanity!

I picked up a whole bunch of them clear bins/drawers at walmart.  they come in different colors to match rooms.  Target also has them.  Placed most used toys at waist level.  Thing like coloring books, crayons, paints etc...all have their own special grouping, separate box.

Teddy bears and other stuffed animals are cute, but annoying.  get your self one of them nettings and get them up and out of the way.

Under the bed is a big place of storage that's hardly ever used.   grab two or three under the bed bins (depends on the size of the bed) and place bigger toys in there such as skate boards, board games, outdoor gear, cars, trucks. etc.

Another place that's hardly ever used is that space above the top shelf of the closet.  Have someone install a sturdy shelf up there.  place out of season stuff there.

the thing about organization, it needs to be practical for one, but it also has to be easy.   Over labeling and whatnot is a waste of time.

we did this for all our kids, I think we spent a max of $50 on bins and what not, and it took care of all my sons toys and clothing issues.

    good luck!

  3. i got sturdy, plastic, large containers with lids.  didn't get them expensive (10 euro the largest ones) . you can put one on top of the other, even behind the door. i even took some of them and stored them in the garage, and then from time to time, i change the boxes, and he finds toys that he's not played with in ages, and enjoys them as if they were new.  i also gave some toys to his kindergarten and even my hairdresser!! but i hate parting with toys who were given to him as presents, i think it's not polite.  also...we've stopped buying toys now. only Santa's job now!

  4. Buy some of those plastic storage boxes (you can buy them anywhere, Target, Container store, Costco, etc.  Put all the toys that he doesn't really use in them and put them away in a closet or in the basement.  When he gets bored of the toys he has out, bring out a box of toys that has been put away, and rotate the toys.  I did that with my kids and it worked out great.

Also, any toys that he just doesn't really use period, consider donating.

THere are always shelters, goodwill, doctors offices, etc. that are looking for toys for kids.

    Good luck!

  5. Gather up all his old toys that he doesn't use any more and donate them.

  6. I have three girls and know how easy it is  to just keep on buying for them, but children really don't need too many toys.  I have storage boxes under their beds for the toys they play with. I usually have a real good sort out of their toys and clothes at least two or three times a year and take it to the charity shop.  If there's anything you think is worth selling on you could always list some of his things on e-bay, and make a bit of money back !

  7. You can put the toys he dont play with any more in the attic and you can buy plastic boxes that are clear with a colorful lid that stacks up with other ones, ive got some for my room, there great.

  8. How about hanging storage baskets, you can get them in places like Ikea, or even cheap ones from somewhere like a pound shop. They're great for stuffing toys into, and if you make it a bit of a game, he'll probably enjoy putting his toys away.

Also plastic storage boxes that are stackable are great and relatively cheap to buy.

  9. Under the bed storage containers are great.  Lots of shelves and/or fun wall units and or trunks!

  12. the idea of containers is great. but then you need to take a picture of what goes in the box. so everyone knows where to put the toys.

If the toys are too young or to old you should give away the young toys to a charity or to Friends, put up the toys that are too old or he is not playing with now. then in 3 months or so switch out the toys. When you rotate toys they become interested in them and with only a small amount of toys out it is easier to manage clean up.

Tell me that your child has enough toys so PLEASE do not buy him any toys.until a special occasion like his birthday. If they do rememberer to take away an old toy he is not playing with. Depending on his age he can bapartrt of giving the toys to other children who don't have any toys to play with.
