Can I get one done without the diagnosis? He does have some social skills delays (minor) and some adaptive skills delays. I have been working with a behavior interventionist for several months and we need to get something in writing to help the transition to the next grade. he is a very bright boy with something holding him back. I just want to give him the best schooling opportinity possible. Does anyone know what route I can take?

  1. I would contact your local education authority and ask to talk to a special needs coordinator and ask their advice ...not sure how it works though if your child has no disability my son has always had one of these plans but Thomas has severe autism, could you not talk to the school or arrange a meeting with them to discuss your concerns ?

  2. One of my best friends is a 3rd grade teacher and this is what she has told me. In SC you do not have to have a diagnosis to get a behavior modification plan. The only thing that has to be done is the child has to be evaluated by the school psychologist and they deem it necessary. If they don't give you the answer you want then go to the principal of the school. If that doesn't work, contact the special needs coordinator of your school district. I know you said that your child is not disabled but the special needs coordinator can point you in the direction to go. Hope this helps.

  3. I am not sure if your son can get a behavior modification plan at school because he hasn’t been diagnosed.

I’m sorry I can’t give you an answer because I know it can be very frustrating.  I’d suggest checking out the resources here:  http://www.ldonline.org/indepth/postseco...  I hope you can find an answer there.

Best of luck to you and your son!
