  1. Why would an 8yr old want a  cell phone anyway you should just get him a gameboy or something.

  2. Think it over?  Does he goes out for a lot of sports? Does he hang out with his friends a lot?  Is he gone out of the house often?  If you have to constantly remember times to pick him up or don't know where he is, he might need a cell phone, because then you can contact him, and know where he's at.

Personally, at eight years of age, not many boys are out and about very often, so I probably wouldn't get him one, but it's up to you.

  3. my kids are the same but you will find that he wants one for a fashion thing so he can show his friends for the first week then he wont use it so buy it but dont spend to much

  4. Tell him as soon as he earns enough money to pay for it then he can get one.

  5. I have an 8 year old boy, and there is no way he needs a cell phone. The only reason I could think of foe him needing one is if he's alone after school, then he can call you any time in a n emergency

  6. Personally, I'd only get one for my 8 year old twins if they were frequently in situations where they needed it--go to a friend's house frequently, have sports practices I can't go to--things like that.

Otherwise, I don't think children need them. However, I tend to see things like cell phones and computers (somewhat!) as tools and not as entertainment, if that makes sense!

  7. He's 8, he doesn't need either... get him a kid's bike or some toys, jeez.

  8. I wouldn't buy him either things.

He's far too young in my opinion.

He'd be better off with some toys or something.

  9. 8?????????? no way no way no way . far too young for a cell phone

  10. Don't give him either one! He is WAY too young for a cell phone and a $250 PSP is way too expensive!  His grades in elementary school mean squat!

  11. I have to tell you, I can't see one single reason why an eight-year-old boy would need a cell phone.

If your son is at his friend's house, one or both of the friend's parents should be home, and you should be able to call either their cell phone or the land line. If he's playing outside, then he should be close enough to the house that you can call him inside easily. If he's at school and there's an emergency at home, then you can call the school and have him paged. Wherever he is, he should be within an easy call from your own cell phone. Sure, it would be kind of nice for you to have him constantly with a phone in his pocket, but what are you going to do when he forgets to charge it, or just decides that he isn't going to answer because he's "busy"? He's not even allowed to have it in most schools, so there really isn't any point. He's at an age where he shouldn't be anywhere without an adult nearby for emergencies anyway. He doesn't drive, and he shouldn't be talking on the phone all night.

It's a completely unnecessary expense for you. Also, he should be responsible enough to keep in contact with you without a cell phone. You should make him memorize all the phone numbers he needs to call you or his other parent.

Get him the PSP. He's less likely to lose it.

  12. where is he going without you?

an 8 year old should always have supervision

so no need for a cell phone!

  13. he's a bit young...i mean if you want to get it so like he can call you and stuff..but does he have tons of people he needs to call... i think he'll be more happy with a PSP... he could lose his phone to i've done that before!! but trust me i think he'll be much more happy with a PSP...the phone should come later... anyway good luck.!! -buggy

  14. Definitely not kids drop and loose phones real easily so wait till at least 7th grade.

I didn't get mine till freshman year.

  15. the psp is the better option because he will use it more and is a  lot  more fun to use than a cell phone. but if you do choose to get him a cell phone for cases of emergency, there's a new plan from t mobile that allows you to manage your kids minutes and text. but you can also get him a prepaid    phone, because i think at that age kids won't use a lot of minutes on their cell.

  16. I think 8 years old is a bit young for a cell phone, unless it's one of those cell phones designed for kids (which can be very helpful if he's in an emergency and needs to call you). However I think a regular cell phone should probably wait until he's a bit older, at 8 years old it's very likely he might loose it or damage it in some way (dropping it etc.). Plus I really don't see why an 8 year old needs a cell phone other than for emergency's if he spends alot of time away from home. So if he's a busy kid with alot of activity's or spends alot of time with friends away from home then maybe he does need a cell phone. But if not then a PSP would probably be a better idea.

  17. Its better to get a PSP because he wont use his cell phone so you'de be paying monthly for something he wont use rather than paying once for something he'd probably use all the time. Plus 8 years old is really young for a kid to have a cell phone. I got mine at 13 and I still was too young. So wait for that.

  18. I am 12 and have ruined 2 cell phones, but have also gotten them placed for free with Verizon. He needs to wait until at least 7th grade, which I am going into. If you were to get him a cell phone, get him a go phone from AT&T, and only give it to him when he goes to a friend's house or something of the sort. And use good judgement.

  19. i wouldnt say either... cell phone he should wait till atleast 13  years old. and psp isnt worth it. i have on. ps2 or xbox is better, and the internet on psp is slow and not good.

  20. They have phone plans were the parent is completely in charge of the phone.  You can add and subtract minutes as you see fit.  I dont think it is a bad idea, he is young but as long as you moniter how he does with it, there shouldnt be a problem.

  21. i think not

  22. Good grief, shall we give them to all the monkeys in Africa?  That is nonsense.  Soon as he can pay for it, then let him have one.

  23. i think the cell phone
