  1. There are so many things you can do to help foster early writing skills! Activities that build fine motor skills, like playdough and cutting with scissors would be a great start... Supply plenty of writing materials for your child to explore, different types of paper, pencils, crayons, markers, side walk chalk, paint with large paper on an easel, finger paints... I could go on.  Also, it's important for your child to see you writing. He needs to learn that what is written can also be read or has meaning.  Before you go to the grocery store let him help you come up with a shopping list. Have him draw pictures and then take his dictation. Make lists.

It's also important to remember that penmanship at this stage is not important.  There are about 80 stages of writing, each one builds upon the next.  Children really don't need to start any type of penmanship lessons until Kindergarten/1st grade.  At the preschool level it should be all about the experience. The process is much more important than the product.

  2. The interest will come as he matures and grows - the more you push, the more he will push back!  Just let him be 4 or 5 and enjoy him as he is.

  3. He's four... Give him a break...

  4. Until his fine motor skills are suitable for writing he won't be interested. Give him lots of experiences with things like playdough and Legos, start him out with fat chalk, let him use markers instead of pencils and leave him alone. Many fours, especially boys, aren't ready to write.

  5. Here is some information on encouraging preschool writing:

  6. discuss topics with him that he is interested in and have him write about those topics or if he does something out of the ordinary that is exciting (such as a vacation) tell him to write about it and describe what happened and what he thought.

  7. enter him in a writing contest

  8. i would start by doing letters, reading to him....drawing with him...start out real simple..it will come..

  9. Ask him to write a short message for some cartoon character. Then, write him back pretending you are the cartoon character, post it, so that it will be real, and ask him for another letter...

    :)

  10. now he is small boy,let him play

  11. Don't complicate things and don't rush him. You're apt to discourage his interest in writing by pushing him too hard and too fast. Besides, he's still very young and he simply hasn't acquired the small motor skills yet. The most important thing you can do for him at this point in his life is read to him! The best way to introduce him to language and words is to read to him as often as you can. There are thousands of great books you can choose. I'd be happy to recommend some. Contact me for suggestions. Don't forget to turn off the TV and visit the library every week. In addition to all the reading, give him materials he can use to write: sidewalk chalk, crayons, markers, pencils. Paint a chalkboard wall in his bedroom. You can find chalkboard paint at any home center store. Good luck!

  12. tell him 2 write what he thinks. When i waz little, mi mom bought me  LEAP IN LEARNING stuff. Now, writing and readin id my fav thing 2 do. Because of this device, i got into one of the best skols in Mass: Boston Latin. I became very smart. They sell these things and other products @ Toys R Us. If ur kid is older than 10, then buy him writing CDs, like Elementary Advantage, or whatever grade hes in. They sell it up 2 High Skol. If he/she loves 2 sing, then let them write it down.

  13. I was a pre-school teacher for 7 yrs,,,, it is true that they only do what they want too. So lets find away to make him want to, my son was like this and I bought him markers with POWER RANGERS  on them because he liked POWER RANGERS,( get it )   we sat together every day at the same time for the same amount of time and in no time he was asking"" mommy how do you make a b'' ect ect...( be consistent) find what works for you and him. hope this helps.
