I have reported him to the inland revenue about a year ago but he is still gambling and still lying to the inland revenue. Will they ever catch him or are they not interested?

  1. Believe me when I tell you, when it comes to taxes, they WILL catch up to him, and he WILL regret it.

  2. Eventually the will catch him.  Until then, don't give him any money.  He probably has a gambling problem and until he recognizes and admits it there is nothing you can do about it.

Also, if you have any joint accounts with him, or anything that has to do with money where your name is connected with his, remove yourself from them.

  3. Betting tax is (usually) included in the 'spread' .. the proceeds (and losses) from gambling are not taxable in UK.

His other income may be Taxed at source (PAYE) or, if he is self-employed / running a business, when he submits his Self Assessment forms / Company Accounts ..

  4. I'm sure they're interested.  They can't prosecute him simply on your say so: they'll have to dig up hard, provable evidence, which might take them some time.
