  1. Tam O'Shanter (Burns)

    Sherlock Holms (Conan Doyle)

    Peter Pan (Barrie)

Richard Hannay - 39 steps (Buchan)

    Where Eagles Dare (MacLean)

    Winnie The Pooh (Milne)

    Miss Jean Brodie (Murial Spark)

Mr Hyde (and Dr Jeckyll) (RL Stevenson)

    Renton & Sickboy (Welsh)

    And many many others

The KKK - whatever the ancestry of the founders - was, remains and hopefully will die as an American organisation.

  2. Groundskeeper Willie (kidding), golf is all you needed to list, in my opinion it's something the people of Scotland should be very proud of.  I'm not sure where your coming from with some of the other items on your list.  Scotland didn't give the U.S. it's national parks, I'm not sure how you figure Scotland is to be credited for the U.S. Navy and sadly we Americans can't blame another country for the KKK.

  3. the Scots had nothing to do with the KKK.  That was the invention of purely American persons, who may or may not have been of Scots-Irish descent.  The Confederacy used St. Andrew's cross in their flag, but Scotland did not in any way agree to that or contribute to it.

  4. Don't forget Harry Potter!!!!

  5. Haggis and Gordon Brown.  Well, I'd better clarify that - I am referring to the delicacy known as haggis, not Gordon Brown's wife, although she may indeed be a delicacy.

Then, of course, there are all those Scottish authors of note - Sir Walter Scott, Robert Burns, et al.

    Andrew Carnegie

  6. Good grief the lot of ye, are ye all sae ignorant, what aboot the HAGGIS, the mighty grand haggis.

And dont forget Capt Kirk would not have gone where no man had gone before without Scottie.

And while we are on the subject, what about Mr Bush,s  dog, thats a scots terrier

  7. US national Parks were established by Teddy Roosevelt, a Dutchman. The two architects of the National Parks System were Burnham and Olmsted. Both were primarily Swedish. Burnham only had a little Scottish heritage, but never lived there. I wouldn't throw that in the mix.

  8. william wallac!

  9. i believe you missed carbon-fibre.

  10. vulcanized rubber

    pneumatic tires

    television

    tweed cloth

Burberry...not only is it a "brand" it is also a style of cloth weaving

    torpedo

quick oat meal (developed in Scotland by Quaker Oats)

King James version of the Bible

tarmacadam & tarmac are the same thing...and the first grand wizard of the KKK was from England, not Scotland

  11. Philosopher Adam Smit,

    Poet Robert Burns,

    Writer R.L.Slivenson,

    Chemist Ch.Mackintosh,

    Physicist J.Watt.

  12. ...and one of the most beautiful places to visit on the planet...lochs, mountains, sky and air that you can breath without coughing your lungs up...deep fried Mars bars, Irn Bru, Billy Connelly and a football team that was only marginally worse than England for a brief period in history.

  13. Wow! Who would think that such a small country could produce so much - isn't there also the poetry of Robbie Burns, the works of J K Rowling, actors such as Sean Connery and David Tennant (Dr Who to the uninitiated and one of the finest classical actors of this generation), Lulu, the clan system, explorers such as David Livingstone?

Just off the top of my head.

  14. Great music

  15. Television, Steam Engine(James Watt), Haggis, Whiskey, Kilts, Bagpipes, Deep Fried Mars Bars.....

If you add the inventions of the English, Welsh and Northern Irish to all those you have a massive list!

  16. Kilts and bagpipes come from Persia.

  17. Whisky and kilts?   Sporran plaid  etc . bonny Prince Charlie .. best golf courses in the world  ...Oh the Loch Ness Monster .

  18. John Logie Baird was a Scot. He invented TV.

PS Give a little credit to Florey, the Australian who made Fleming's little curiosity an actual practical medicine-penicillin.
