  1. If your son is responsible and he knows about predators, he might be ready. Is the neighborhood safe? Does he know anyone in the neighborhood who can watch him walk home?

  2. I would say give it another couple of years but I guess it depends on how mature and smart he is about things that could be harmful to him like the stove.  I have a 13 yr old step daughter and I know she can handle being home alone but it is still nerve racking!

    Good Luck!

  3. does your son have any friends?  Maybe they could walk home with him.  I wouldn't leave home alone for too long.  Maybe an hour max... make sure he knows all about stranger danger and not to answer the door for anyone.

  4. 10 or 11

  5. is your neighborhood safe ?

    key determining factor

  6. If your not gone more than about 30 minutes, he should be pretty good. And a safe neighborhood.

  7. 14

  8. i think you should let him walk by himself until hes 11 that's when kids start to get embarrassed by there parents walking them  to school .trust me i know my  nephew tells me he gets embarrasses by his mom walking him to school . but the most important thing is that the neighbourhood should be safe . like no cars passing frequently or like the house being by the road . hope this works for u

  9. If your neighborhood is safe I would say he can maybe walk home with a couple of neighboring kids or with a group that go the same way but I would suggest you not leaving him alone for more than 45 minutes alone.

  10. that completely depends on the kid and the situation. If the child is responsible and it's a fairly safe neighborhood, I would say it is fine.

  11. I think when he is responcible enough to do stuff with out you having to ask. I think you should let him walk if he feeels like it and you can trust him

  12. Exactly... makes a big difference if you live in harlem vs. a suburb or gated community... does his school not have a bus service?

Unless you want to run the risk of him getting abducted, send a responsible friend to walk him until he's in high school, or get him a nanny to walk with him.

  13. you should wait till he's 11 or 12 because your neighbour hood could not be safe as you think it is

  14. he is so old enough!

  15. Although age plays a factor in this maturity is also a big thing.  If your son is responsible can follow all the rules, knows that once he is home who to call if an emergency comes up, is not afraid to be there for a short period of time etc then I would give it a try on a trial basis.  My daughter is 10 and she comes home on her own and is here for about 30 minutes till I get in with her brother and older sister.

If your son has a problem with wandering or forgetting the rules then I would wait until he shows more maturity.

  16. if your neighborhood is safe 10 is okay and maybe he can walk in a group. if the neighborhood is not safe maybe 12 and in a group!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. I would wait until your son is in High school. There is so many creeps out there! Also find people that go to his school to walk home with him when he does reach a certain age.
