  1. TO IMPROVE TOP MAX SPEED DOWN HILL RUNNING TO THE POINT WHERE HE IS ALMOST FALLING OVER, OR SIMPLY TOW HIM BEHIND THE CAR UNTIL HE IS JUST ABOUT TO FALL OVER

  2. do some short fast runing for 30mim each day

  3. simply just practice technique it will come eventually. and just do sprints and eat properly.

  4. The pros use among other things, speed ladders and parachutes.

You don't need to spend money on these things though.

Just mark out the "ladder" on the ground with some chalk.

Instead of a chute, you can use any weight tied to a belt around his waist. Don't go too heavy with the weight or you'll stunt his growth and it won't matter how fast he is.

You could easily make one of these from a bit of old rope

Be careful though, as the neighbors might think you're torturing your kid.

  5. get him a running parachute, it will create drag when he runs, improving his exploding speed, which is important for a good half or full

  6. Ask your local police to set their dogs on him.

  7. Personally I think 11 is too young for training programmes. Get him to wait a few years until he is starting to develop and the training can start then.

  8. cover him in steak and get a german sheperd that will make him faster

  9. buy him a Chevy Comaro,he can get to training quicker

  10. get with lot of clos on

  11. Beep tests

  12. Shuttle rare good for increasing speed. Also, as has already been said, add resistance when running.

  13. Beep tests are probably the answer they build up faster every time and it gets harder and harder.

  14. increasing speed is definatly  possible.

running  is  just a series  of jumps  so  you need  to increase  your  distance  of each step  by the rate  of each step.  this  is  done  by running  down  hills and  getting  a good stretch before each practice  and  game.

You can also do a thing called towing  by pulling  someone  with a car . Both of these  help the  rate and the lenth  of the jumps  but  you can also practice  form  - check out parisi speed  school .  Also you  can do  fast  feet drills  get  your moter functions  working  faster  . high knees  and  polymetrics .  speed  can be  increased  and  your  take off speed  can be  increased.   In rugby  though its  best  to be acting not reacting  so  just  have  him ready  each  play.  It also  helps  to be  moving  every play  before  it happens  and  to never be at a stand still when  making an open field tackle  . Give the defender a side and  push him that way  but that  is another topic.   Just  remember  there are many ways  to also speed  up  your  rugby play and  desion  making so that  you look faster .  ACT dont React its  faster.  check the  ref  sometimes  you can be  a little offsides  also .  Or at least  be  moving  toward the defensive  line  .  Just like  a blitzing  football free safety  or linebacker  trying to  guess the snap  count  in football.

Good luck  guys .  There  are speed  schools  out there that  also  video  you and  check  your  form. .

You can also tie  a big  tire or  weight  on and  drag  it  to  build  up  thigh  muscles  and  speed.

good luck  Joel Northeast  USA Rugby / OB/ Nyamericansrugbycom
