Question:

My son is 12 and having many issues with lying?

He is recently in therapy for lying and anger issues. He is constantly lying and recently stole from a kid at school. When his teacher confronted him, he yelled at her? How do I handle these many issues? The therapist wants me to "reward" him with money. I think that is unnecessary, because I should not have to reward my child for not lying or for posessing good behavior. any advice?

  1. you shouldnt reward him with money. you can like take him for ice cream or something. and if he lies, dont take him anywhere.

  2. TAKE HIM SOMEWHERE FUN. tell him that u r proud

  3. I would scold him every time he lies and make sure he knows that it wasn't right

    I used to lie about food and every time i lied about it, i would have to eat another thing of food :l I then learned not 2 lie about it

  4. spank him, good. it just takes about one good one to set them straight

  5. So it sounds like he already goes to counseling. It does not seem like the therapist is helping. I mean you dont reward a child for telling the truth.This is something that you have to do in life.I mean you dont get paid in life for telling the truth.I would really try a different therapist. I would also try to talk to him everyday like maybe at dinner or something and talk about his day and if anything bothered him that day,this might get things out right away and not blow up.I am not saying that you don't talk to you son. I am just saying like a set time for you two to talk about his day..GOOD LUCK!!

  6. Punish him more harshly for breaking the rules. Don't worry about "rewarding" him. That doesn't work anyway. I had deals like that when I was a kid and I basically took advantage of my therapists.

  7. I did not tolerate lying.

    In my house

    lying = a spanking.

  8. i think you need to first figure out where the lying and anger issues are coming from, and then decide how to handle it. obviously, you're working on that since he's in therapy. and if this therapist doesnt seem to be working for him, find another.

  9. Ignore it
