  1. He can do most retail jobs at 16. Depending on your state, he may only be able to work till 8 pm on school days and no more than 16-20 hours during a school week. During winter and spring breaks he can work 40 hours, same with the summer.

He will need to get a work permit from school before he can start work.

  2. It depends on where you live, in England he can do almost anything, few jobs are limited by age, he can not though work with alcohol (like in a bar) or in a slaughterhouse etc at 16.

What you think would be a good career for him? If he wants to be a chef, get him in a restaurant helping, if he wants to be a doctor, get him something in the hospital, maybe just cleaning at weekends, but still it'll put him in the right environment to learn as well as work.

If it's a really good placement but with little pay, could you subsidize him to work there? if he earns  a little bit, like £3 an hour (working as a favour for a friend perhaps), could you make him up to £5 to encourage him to stay and learn?

** I updated this because you just added you are in the UK **

he can work 8 hours a day but no more then 40 hours a week. He is entitled to minimum pay of £3.40 an hour. I have a link for uk workers too:

  3. He can work at a fast food restaurant.

    He can do paper route.

He may be able to get work at some retail stores. Most retail stores prefer people aged 18 and up.

    He can work at Walgreens.

He can work at a grocery store.

And by law he can only work 4 hours a day.

  4. I am in state of ohio. He can work anywhere but not factorys. On school nights by law here in ohio I know sure they are not allowed to work pass 10pm at night.

  5. It all depends on where you live.  If you live in the suburbs, try a small fast food restaurant or a dine in restaurant as a bus boy or dish washer.  If you live in the country, try a tractor supply or home depot.  Any small job for minimum wage is a start for saving.  My first few jobs were a salesman at a portrait studio, construction laborer (over the summer), and a salesman at a tackle store (fishing).  Now I'm an electrician.  A wide variety of jobs (part time or summer) introduces him to a world of opportunities.  He might find his passion for what he wants to do or he might be inspired to something unique.  Good hunting!

  6. Retail is probably his best bet - be careful though sometimes the wage is shocking.

My son has opted for food retail - he earns £4.84 per hour + time and a half on a sunday.

If he waits to apply until he is 16, then they will recruit straight away, perfect time to apply, they have all just lost tons to university.

If your son is going to college - then Id just suggest working weekends, if he isnt going onto further education, then he can work full time

  7. child labor laws.

  8. paper round!

it worked for me when i was 16 :D

  9. im in the same situation

he can work wherever but it is really hard to get jobs in the summer because of all the college kids

  10. do you have a tjay max tell him to try there they are always hiring tell him not to work at wendys or any stay open late resteraunt the work you forever

  11. i dont know about uk, but here in canada, once your 16 you can do basically anything but work as serving alcohol (need to be 18)

try a dishwasher at a restaurant, real oppertunities to become a cook and make tons of cash

    try retail

    grocery stores

    fitness club

whatever interests him.. hand out a ton of resumes.

in terms of hours, when i was in high school i worked around 20 hours a week, about 15 of those were on sat/sun and then the rest during the week.. its up to how much he can handle wihtout grades dropping

  12. working at a movie theater

a bag boy at the grocery

  13. almost any job and any time.

  14. he can work in stores of just about any kind as long as he doesn't sell liqueur, the working hours are up to the employer so you would have to check that with them but you need to get some working papers from his school and he needs to get them signed by a doctor and his Principal and then the employer.

:D hope to have helped you out some.

  15. He can work most anywhere and usually he has to be home by 11.00 .My Son worked at McDonald's after school for 3 yrs. Here are some suggestions on work placed. He will need a workers permit also.

    Car dealership----Wash bay.

    fast food

    grocery stores

    department stores as stockers

    napa,auto zone

    pizza places

  16. He can work anywhere he wants, my first job was at 14 as a Sushi shop busboy. Just remember, larger chains like Target, Walmart, etc probably won't hire him due to child labor laws.

For your local child labor laws use a search engine and plug in your state.

  17. Well he can work at any place that allows 16 year olds to work. During the school year in my state you can't work past 10 PM on a school night and no more than 40 hours a week. You will want to check your child labor laws in your state because it varies.
