My son is now 3 months old and has never since birth been able to hold his soother in his mouth. We always have to hold it for him. People ive asked say it may be because he doesn't like a soother. But no actually he loves it and it calms him right down. People have also told me he'll get the grasp of it in time but i was wondering if anyone else has ever come across this problem too and if it did actually fix itself or what they had to do? Thanks

  1. what do you mean "hold it in his mouth"? if you mean, with his hand they generally wont be able to do that till after the 4 month mark where they learn to on purposly reach out for things...between now and then theyll learn to hold just show him a few times. he'll learn it in his own time; if you mean sucking wise he cant keep it in his mouth it may be the actual soother is too big for his mouth ( i know it sound silly) but i have tried so many brand sits not funny and have found the shape of the rubber  bit that actually goes into their mouths, the NUK brand is best. its just a basic dummy/soother bt stays in bubs mouth for longer you can try that?

    good luck

  2.    They usually have trouble keeping it in they're mouths when they're little. He'll learn when he's ready.

  3. if he likes it he can hold it himself but he doesnt like it so he takes it out. in the beginning he is calmed because he thinks its the bottle as he realises theres no flow he takes it out. u r forcing him to have something he doesnt like just because u get some peace of mind. dont do it. worse, it will give him stomach ache as he will swallow air.

u dont need to give him a soother. he will cry more due to stomach ache and then to soothe him u will give him a soother and then again he will swallow air.. and so on.
