My son is having trouble going p**p. He grunts and cry's everytime he has to go today. It looks like he's in pain. He wakes up and cry's for about 30 seconds and then grunts a few and goes back to sleep. Is there anything I can do to help him p**p? He doesn't have trouble passing gas, I thought that was what it was so I gave him some gas drops but they dont seem to help. The only time I have got him to p**p today was when I held him close and feed him a bottle while we sat with the shower was going, the steam seemed to relax him. I know they say that newborns have trouble figuring out how to push but I don't think thats the situation. WHAT CAN I DO??

  1. Try inserting your finger into his a**s and wiggling it around for 60-90 seconds. That should loosen up his stool and allow for the fecal matter to flow. Use some KY jelly if you have it for lubricant. If you don't have any KY, then use saliva. ***IMPORTANT*** Make sure you apply the saliva BEFORE you insert your finger into his a**s - otherwise it could make you very sick

  2. If your baby was older I would suggest prune juice. But since he is still a newborn I would consult his doctor before giving him anything.

  3. Heat up the formula or breast milk.  The warmer liquids will loosen things.  Either that or dilute the formula more.  I did it once just to cut back on how much my baby consumed so quickly.  Made a pretty gross wet mess later.

  4. there is an easy way to fix it but i dont knlw if u can.......

breastfeed him just for 1 feeding and he'll p**p. formula its really hard for their tummy's. but if hes pooping atleast once a day hes ok. doctors expect atleast 1 p**p every 2-3 days for bottle feed babies. when i switch my son from breast to bottle he too was pooping only 1 and i was concerned but the doctor told me thats ok and it was fine

  5. Is he on formula? My little one was on the type of formula that helps spit up and it was the same thing your son was going through. Also do you use rice cereal? that could be it also, the rice makes it a little harder for your son to go to the bathroom, and that is the reason why some formulas make trouble for babies because they could contain the rice. According to my doctor things u could do to help you baby go to the bathroom is move his legs like he is riding a bike, when he is trying to go, make sure he is sitting upwards. It is hard to p**p laying down. If it looks like nothing else is really working, do a rectal temperature, that will get him to p**p (make sure to use some ky). Also inform the doctor after you tired all of these suggestions if they don't work. I did it before, and the doctors had me switch formulas which made my daughter more upset. Last but not least, do what you feel is best for your son. Listen to your heart and do it, if u feel you need to go to the doctors then go. I hope all is well, and I know how you feel, it is hard, but as long as your little guy is eating well, and growing, I wouldn't be too concern with it.

  6. Is he on formula?  If so, it might be constipating him.  My son has never had problems pooping, especially in the first few weeks.  Now that he's 8 weeks old, and exclusively on formula, he poops only once or twice a day, and I can always tell, because he works at it!  You should talk to his doctor about it.  Good luck!

  7. Call your pediatrician.

  8. An infant size (1 gram) suppository should help him push his dirt out.

  9. You said he already went today so I wouldn't worry right now, but always talk to your pediatrician with medical issues when your baby is so young.

  10. Always call your Peds, but you also can take Miralax, and just enough in the cap to barely cover the bottom and put in the bottle. It will make a huge difference to the baby. You dont want it to go to long. Then the baby will be in pain. Good Luck!
