These are toys he and my daughter had when they were 2 and 3 now they are turning 5 and 6. My neices and nephew play with them when they come over and my kids do too since they are not in school yet. Should I just keep them to keep them busy or get rid of them and try to get them into older kid stuff??

  1. You can always consider selling them, and then using the money to get new toys for them. I would get rid of them if your kids aren't using them. It is just more clutter to have around.

  2. buy more toys, but keep the old too.

  3. Box all their older toys up and you can bring them to the salvage army or goodwill.  They always take donations like that.  But defintely get your kiddos some older kid stuff, more their age.  I usually go through my kids' toys starting around October (they both have October Birthdays) and start boxing things up that they do not play with.  Then come birthday time and Christmas, they get all of these new toys from family and friends.

  4. Ask him if he thinks he's ready to get rid of his old toys. Then maybe you could sell them at a rummage sale or something and use the money to buy him new and better toys!!

  5. Take the toys you think your son won't miss, and put them in a bag or box somewhere out of the way (basement, closet shelf, etc).  Leave them there for 3-4 weeks.  Anything he asks for, take out and give back to him.  Anything he doesn't miss for a month, donate to charity (or your nieces and nephews).

If your kids don't remember a toy for a month, chances are they don't really want it anymore.  However, if you ask them to get rid of toys, they will probably tell you they want to keep them all.  Kids have a hard time getting rid of toys, even ones they don't really play with anymore.

Of course, if you're getting rid of old toys, you may need to purchase some new age-appropriate toys to replace them.  But just a few.  Kids can be perfectly stimulated with a few simple toys like stacking blocks and crayons.  No need to buy a lot of fancy battery powered stuff for kids that age.  Teach them to use their creativity and they will be happy with whatever toys they have.

  6. We have kept all of the toys of our oldest. My youngest son loves them. We throw away the old broken ones but the ones that still work and that i have noticed they play with more i keep. My youngest has few brand new toys. You can pick up a toy here or a toy there for a few bucks and pretty soon their toys will be up to their age. I advise letting them color alot and draw. My 7 yr old and 5 yr old loves to color and draw. It really gets their minds set on doing something and finishing it.

  7. um older kid stuff? are u kidding me, u really dont have ANY TOYS for your 5 yr old?! he must be so bored!!
