  1. And just what kind of doctor was this? If it was a medical doctor, he would be the first I've ever encountered with a massive knowledge of etymology and would be unlikely to confer diagnoses that most parents would find unintelligible. If he is a professor of literature with a doctorate in the field, he has no business offering ratings to a five year old.

I suspect that your question is a hoax but ,on the off chance that it isn't, I will tell you that every child is different and must be regarded with love and acceptance no matter how advanced or limited they might be.

  2. Contact your local school system and ask them to do a "Child Study"  They can do some tests with your child to see if he has some delays in speech or other areas and help you help him.

  3. My goodness, my doc asks if they can draw a circle and cut with scissors! If you're really worried about it I would look into a child development program maybe they have suggestions of early interventions. My advice is that most assessments of little kids don't have bearing on their development as a whole.

  4. When you're talking about speech and language  development, semantics refers to knowledge of the meanings of words.   Prosody refers to putting the correct emphasis on the correct syllable in a word.  Pragmatics, I believe, refers to the way words are used, ie if he is asking a question, is it phrased like a question? Or if he's telling you to do something, is it phrased like a command should be?

Like the person who answered before me, I'd like to know what kind of doctor made this diagnosis and what his qualifications are.  Also, why was your son's language development evaluated?  Were you concerned about his development before the evaluation was done?  If these results are valid, he may need a little help before he gets too far behind in school.

  5. what the h**l are you talking about?

  6. why do you care so indepthly. your child is developing. as long as progression continues. who cares about all that mumbo gumbo
