1st time, mother-in-law says my son hit his head and he passed out with his fists tightening up. (she thought he was playing) 2nd time he ran into the corner of a table hit his head fell straight to the floor, eyes rolled back he got extremely stiff. 3rd time: He got a TB shot today saw some blood and passed out, his fists got stiff and looked like he was having an epilepsy. Is this normal? Should I have him get some kind of tests done?

  1. My cousin was five when he started closing his eyes and shaking his head and his parents thought he was just playing. He kept doing it and acting like nothing happened so they took him to the doc and he was having seizures due to a benign tumor in his brain. They operated to take it out, and a few years later it came back so they operated again and since then, nothing. He's 10 now. Go to the doctor and tell them that you don't care what they think; you respect their opinion, but you want and MRI and any other test needed to make sure he is fine.

  2. sounds like seizures to me from all of the tv shows i watch ^^

  3. You should definitely discuss all of the above with his doctor.  IT sounds like there could be a problem.

  4. First of all this is something you should be talking to his doctor about, second getting him tested just to be safe sounds like a good idea. Hope everything turns out fine.

  5. What did your doctor say after he passed out?  If you didn't discuss it then, you should discuss asap with your child's doctor.  I had a few episodes of passing out while I was pregnant and they put me through a battery of tests.  I would be more concerned with the passing out after he hit his head though, the stress of getting a shot made me pass out as a child, but a head injury can be serious. The passing out could be due to epilepsy, diabetes, a heart problem, a brain problem or injury, or he could just easily pass out due to stress.  I don't want to scare you.  Your pediatrician will evaluate the different situations in which this has happened, take a family history, and begin tests or send you to a specialist.  If you are concerned and feel like your pediatrician is not concerned enough, have your child evaluated by another doctor.  This might be a clue into a more serious problem.  When all is said and done, you'll know if your child has a condition and how to deal with it, or if your child is perfectly healthy!

  6. And time a child, or anyone, hits their head and has a seizure (as your son did) they ought to be evaluated by a professional.  It could simply be he is fainting, it happens with little kid when they get surprised - but coupled with hitting his head is not a good thing.
