  1. it could have an effect on his social skills.

  2. Not to worry!  I went into kindergarten at 6.  I had a normal elementary life and was put into gifted classes in middle school.   I'm now in the IB Program in high school which is an early college-prep program. There is really nothing to worry about with your son.  He won't be ostracized for his age by his peers.

  3. I don't know, but I think that it will affect him because he never learned things from pre-k that will help him in kindergarten. I have best hopes for him that he will do good though.

  4. Every child is different. Most children catch up academically by third grade. One of the most important learning areas of preschool is the social aspect and being comfortable in a classroom setting. He can get this from kindergarten too. Many children learn the pre-writing, pre-reading and pre-math at home or in dance, music or other weekly classes. They learn to get along with other children and to follow directions then too. Enjoy your child's school year and stay as involved as you can.

  5. I completely doubt it will hinder him in class in the least bit. Sure some studies may say this and that. But what it really comes down to, is how you've been with him in the home. Mostly, pre k things are just sort of like a daycare. I can still remember all my days in pre k. It was a waste of time, but concidering my parents both worked in the mornings, it was essential. There is a bit of a social aspect in pre k. More kids around, they'll start getting into the social state of mind with other children. But still, even at home he can be social as well. So I really would'nt worry at all about it.

  6. Na I don't think it will hurt him at all.  Yes I think that if you can get your child into a good Pre-K program then you should, but I wouldn't worry about it.  I'm sure he'll be just fine...

  7. yes and no. Today studies show that preschool is one of the most important times for a child to learn. As a preschool teacher and a day care worker I see that is being true. You can see a big difference in kids based on how long they have been in preschool/daycare.

But in the long run as long as you gave him proper stimulation and socializing expiriences he should be just fine

  8. Studies show that children who do not go to preschool catch up to the children who did go to preschool around 3rd grade. As a preschool teacher, I of course recommend preschool but since your child is too old now, he'll be fine.  Just keep a close eye to make sure he is at the level he should be.  You can always get him extra help with the things he's behind on.  If he's right on the mark with the other children, then don't worry - all will be fine!

  9. absolutely not.....chances are your child has learned more at home than if he had been in the earlier class...I had three daughters and did the same thing for all of them..the kindergarten teacher told me my girls were ahead of the other children.
