He is breastfed. I have a home baby scale. I dont know if its accurate, but compared to my friends formula fed baby, my son is tiny. Is that normal? PS. I also feed my baby cereal. When my son was born he weighed 7 pounds and 5 oz. Thanks!

  1. Actually he might be tiny because of the cereal if you have been feeding him that for awhile.

But 15lbs 15oz (7.2 kg) is the 15th percentile.  Which is perfectly fine.  Someone's got to be in the 15th just like someone has to be in the 85th (*lol* mind you mine are usually off the breastfed chart and they ARE breastfed)

  2. My son is almost 7 months old and weighs 16 lbs 1 oz. He weighed 7 lbs 5 oz at birth too. He's formula fed, Enfamil w/Lipil, and he eats a ton, and is on solids too and he's just not a chunker. =) They say that a baby should have doubled their birth weight by 6 months old so that's ok. My pediatrician told me that as long as his graph is curving upward, and not staying level or dipping down, then his growth is good and there's nothing to worry about. Hope that helps. =)

  3. my son was in the 13 pounds for his 4 months check up (double his weight just).  He has doubled his weight and they say that is healthy for them to do that by 6 months.

People say my baby is tiny he is breastfed also he is right on average not below or above !  kinds get sick of hearing it lol all babies are different !

  4. Sounds about right for his weight.  A baby is generally expected to double their birth weight by 4-6 months, so he's right on track  :)

  5. What does your doctor say?  That sounds really small to me, personally.

  6. My son is almost 6 months old, and he weighs 16 pounds.  He is in the 25% for his age, but the doctor doesn't seem concerned at all.  I think your son sounds like a normal size to me.  :-)

  7. I am sure it's normal, there is a big scale for what constitutes "normal".  My daughter is on the other side of the scale, she is only 10 weeks and already almost 15 lbs, and she is breastfed.

  8. Please don't worry!

As long as he is healthy, it doesn't matter if he's small.

My niece was breastfed and she's just a little peanut of a girl but she's incredibly healthy, smart, beautiful... I love her so much!

Health is so much more important than size!

Believe me... my twins are huge and also healthy but my back hurts.

I hope my next baby stays smaller!

  9. I'm a mother of three and all my children were small as babies. My oldest daughter is now 10yrs old and taller than most her age and average in weight. My second daughter is average height and a bit overweight. My Third child, my son, now 7 months old is 16 lbs, he is a good eater, and his doctor feels that he is doing exellent. So much focus is put on a babies weight, with concidering the obisity rates in this country, should be the last thing people are concerened about. My son may be smaller than most his age but he can now crawl, pull up on things, chew and eat food like he is one years old, bables like he is having a conversation with you, wave hello and goodbye, and will repeat "Hiiii Dada" when said to him. Dont worry about your son's weight. As long as he eats well and shows normal behavior, I'm sure he will be just fine. Read the following info:

Research from the early 1990's demonstrated that breastfed and formula-fed babies have different growth patterns.  The most significant differences are that breastfed babies grow faster than formula-fed babies in the first few months, and then "lean out" compared to formula-fed babies between 3 and 12 months.

So, if you try to chart a breastfed baby's growth using the formula-fed charts, you might see a baby who is falling off of the curve after the first 2 months.  This sometimes resulted in recommendations that mothers supplement with formula.  It also meant that formula-fed babies who were experiencing excessive weight gain in later months - and at risk of later overweight and obesity - were viewed as normal and no interventions were recommended.

The WHO is clear that these charts are not intended to apply just to breastfed babies.  They can serve as an important early warning to doctors if a formula-fed baby is experiencing excessive weight gain - a particular concern because formula-fed babies are at risk for overweight and obesity.  The WHO states, "Arguably, the current obesity epidemic in many developed countries would have been detectable earlier if a prescriptive international standard had been available 20 years ago."

  10. My breastfed daughter weighed 15 1/2 pounds at 12 months.  Everyone freaks out about it, but I say some kids are just smaller.

  11. Is he gaining weight? If he is gaining weight over time, I think that is normal. If he has not gained weight for a couple of months, I would be concerned. Keep in mind that the baby cereal is not as nutrient dense than breast milk. If you want him to grow more, keep to breastmilk only. It has more calories ounce for ounce than baby cereal.

  12. My daughter is 4 months (5 tomorrow) and at our 4 month visit she was 14 pounds and the doctor said she was normal.  She is formula fed. Everyone calls her chubby though so she may be a little big for her age according to "people" but to the doctor's she is right on track. so I would ask at the 6 month visit

  13. they said breastfeed baby will be much smaller than formula fed baby. each baby is different though... comparing mine and my friend which only 4 days different and both formula fed, (both 11mths old now) hers weighing 11.4kg while mine is only 9.2kg.

you can always consult your doctor, if you're concern..

  14. my son is three months and weights 17 lbs

  15. Wow! That is a bit small.

My son is 7 weeks old (not even 2 months yet) and already weighs nearly 14 pounds. He IS a bit bigger than many babies his age, but he is exclusively breastfed on demand and his doctor is very pleased with his health.

What is your son's doctor saying about his weight? If you or your husband are small in stature, it could also be genetic.

I'd definitely have him checked out though.. just to be safe!

    Good luck! <3

  16. thats is a good weight for a 6 month old
