  1. If it is reflux, you probably have a LONG road ahead of you. My son (8 months) was diagnosed after surgery for pyloric stenosis at 7 weeks old. We have an appt with the surgeon next week to discuss surgery for it. It has been the hardest thing to cope with. The medications are horrible and not licensed for use in babies however they have to use them anyway. We have had to have our poor little baby undergo so many horrible tests it is breaking my heart. I just hope it will sort itself out for your little one as it is a terrible disease. My LO is probably not going to grow out of it on his own so we don't have much options left.

Good luck and I would go to A&E. It sounds severe but I have spoken to many mums in the same situation and this is the very quickest way of getting to see a specialist. Failing that, you could (if you can afford it) go private for one appt. with a paediatric gastroenterologist and get them to refer you to an NHS one.

  2. i would take him to the hospital and get him checked over and i would also report your doctor for the way you have been treated my daughter had a reflux and she grew out of it there is a mediceine that you can get but i cnt remember the name bear with me and ill try and find it for you

  3. My son was diagnosed with reflux at about the same age as your baby. He too was in agony and it was very scary, he choked lots of times. He grew out of it at about 8 months old when the valve to his stomach matured and stopped letting the acid from his stomach come back up. Our doctor prescribed gaviscon too which we gave after each feed. It didn't prevent reflux happening but it did seem to ease it. What helped my baby was to prevent him from laying flat on his back as this meant the acid could easily escape. I would put him in his cot with a rolled up towel under his mattress, or a couple of books under the cot legs at the head end. I hope this helps.

  4. Do discuss it with your gp in case its something serious

My son had a similar sounding problem and it turned out he had allergies and the food I was eating was going through the breast milk and upsetting him. It took a long time to work this out of course! Its possible you may be eating something which is causing this, if you are still breast feeding. If so I suggest a slow elimination diet yourself, cut out (one at a time for a few days only) onions, then go back on them, then cows milk products (diary) then go back on them, then eggs and see if he improves. They can test his poo to see if he is lactose intolerant and they can take a blood sample to test for food allergies, but when they are young I don't think its always accurate.

If you are no longer breast feeding then you need to get advice, please don't alter his diet with out the support of a dietician.
