My son is 8 years old, and I still assist him with his showers to make sure he is cleaning properly. Is he too old for me to do this?

  1. Yes he needs to learn how to be some what independent by now. Or else you will be giving him showers when he is twelve. It's best to stop asap and break the habbit.

  2. Yes, It's time to trust him to do it himself. He's a big boy and will manage fine.

  3. Yes it is too old, by 8 he should know how to wash himself properly, you do not need to see him naked and he's at an age where he needs his privacy.

  4. Yes you need to show him how to do it. You may need to turn the water n so he doesnt burn himself but you need to let him bath himself.

  5. yes that is deffinately too old.

  6. yea! If you don't teach him to do things he'll never learn.

  7. Way too old! My 8 year old has showered himself for yearsss.. When he first started I helped him get the water to the right tempature.. Then he figured out how to do it himself..

  8. Yes. He should know by now how to take a shower. He doesnt' need your help.

  9. Of course it is too old....by 8 he is fully capable of cleaning himself.

  10. Yes. I can see helping a little girl if she has long hair, doing that first and then leaving her to finish the rest. But other than, 8 is way old enough for kids of both sexes to bathe without help.

  11. if   he   needs  help    go   and   help  him   but    sometimes   u   can    show   him     and    at   ten    just    wash    his  hear

  12. gosh yes

  13. Have you taught him how to take care of himself? If not, you should.

  14. I would think he'd be old enough to shower by himself.  It's not the end of the world if he doesn't come out spotless, you know.  He's only going to get dirty again the next day anyway.

  15. I think you should show him how to do it and trust that he can. He's old enough to do that. I start the water and set up the towels then let him loose. Don't be surprised if he plays and goofs around some in between. We have this saying thing I run a check with. Besides the whole body stuff I ask if they've washed starting from the top of the body; wash hair, behind the ears, neck, pits (arms), belly, privates, butt crack, knees, feet, good! woohoo! Body wash and soaps and suds up good helps with one those scrubby things, his own helps. Yes, he might not every speak like you might but he'll learn some confidence if you praise him for doing a great job and taking care of himself.

  16. I think so.  He should have learned to be self sufficient in that area by now.

  17. Yes I think so. Let him shower alone with you just outside the bathroom if you are worried. He needs to be getting some independence from you at this age.

  18. I think at 8 years old he should be able to clean himself properly! Its ok to check on him, but to supervise him while hes in there isn't going to teach him how to do it!
