Question:

My son is 9 months old does he need his birth cirtificate to fly on a plane??

I have his SS card but was wondering if he needs a Birth certificate too?? please help thanks!

  1. you usually have to have some sort of proof of who he is. They may not ask for it but if they ask and you cross state lines and you don't have it you wont make your flight, as they will have to varify that you are not abducting a child.

    Also, if you are travelling alone and crossing state lines you may want to carry a permission from your husband that you are allowed to take your child with you. If they suspect that you are travelling without his consent they can deny you access. One of my mom group friends got denied and they had to travel the following day after the husband had signed a permit in front of a notary public.


  2. It won't hurt to have his birth certificate with you, but small children do not need ID to fly domestically - only the parent(s) need ID.

  3. Only if you fly internationally.  Although if you are worried about it you can take it with you.  =) Have fun on your trip.

  4. Children under 18 flying within the U.S. with their parents do NOT need I.D. See site below to see that I.D. is required only of those over 18.
