  1. I have found some books that give all kinds of info. They are called "What To Expect....."

There are different ones ......what to expect when youre pregnant (I know it's a little late for that onw!!).

    .......the First year

    ...... the Toddler Years

    ......Baby-Sitters Handbook           T

There may be more, but these are the one's I have.

It gives you a month to month play-by-play.

Like for the ninth month, what your baby may be doing,

what to expect at his checkup, feeding your baby, what you may be concerned about-fussy eating habits, strange stools, no teeth, hairless and what's important to know.

In other chapters it tells you about the seasons, how to keep baby warm/cool, summer rash, dry  dkin, holiday hazards.

When your baby is sick, when to call doctor, medicine, fever, infections......... even resusitation techniques.

It has things for mom in there. EVen things for dad and other children.        AND MORE

The Toddler one is awesome too. It tells you about all of the develpomental steps, how to help, etc.

They are about $15, but I got mine from second hand stores. I paid $1 a piece. Second hand stores are the best place to get books.

As far as reading TO him, it does not really matter what you read, but read to him often. Reading to a child, no matter what the age, and talking to the child are great language develpoment skills

  2. just reading a variety of board books will help him develop of a love for reading which will stay with him for a lifetime.  Choose books with simple text and bold illustrations.  Eric Carle, mem fox, don and Audry wood are some good authors to start with!

  3. Babies don't come with instructions and sometimes you could use some kind of reference.  You may have questions like...When do I start solids?, or How much sleep does my child need.  "Touchpoints"  by T. Berry  Brazelton M.D. takes you through a child's development at every stage.  He is an expert on Early Child Care and Education Training.  I think you'll like it.  I refer to it many times.  Good luck!

  4. I know this is going to sound like a silly answer, and I certainly don't agree with everything in the book but "How to Teach Your Baby to Read" is a good book because it goes into how babies learn and how parents can best support that learning by attitude and enthusiasm.

  5. I don't think it matters as much as how you read to your child & how often.  Example, if you read a development book ONCE to your child, more than likely, it won't make a difference.  But read 2-3 books to your child once a day or every other day & your child will began to enjoy this activity.  Read it enthusiastically.  & instead of reading a bunch of books, stick to 2-3 so that he/she can began to see the pattern.  Use your finger to show what you're reading.  Point out things on the pictures.  If the book is talking about a ball, after you read the sentence, point to the ball, & say,"there's the ball!".  Children take after what they see.  If they see you relaxing with a book, they'll see reading as a relaxing past time.  Also, a personal opinion:  don't be a stickler for things.  Don't get super strict like developmental books.  Books like Dr. Suess encourage imagination & stimulate the childs brain with colors & drawings.  Baby Einstein books are excellent.
