hes only 110 pounds and maybe 5'7''

ive been studying all the 250 4-strokes but cant figure out what bike would be best for a small teen. the best information i have found is that the kx250r has softer suspension, would that be better for his lightweight?

i am about to spend a lot of money on a new bike for him so i would like to know what bike would best fit his size most comfortably. he really wants the crf but im not sure if that will be best for him. people have told me that i should get him what ever bike he likes best because they are all great machines. if anyone has any information that can help me out, please share because i really have no idea.

  1. I was in the same spot a few years back and spent years trying to figure out what the perfect size bikes were.

First, DO NOT GET A TRAIL BIKE.   Trailbikes are incredibly heavy, poor suspension, and plain sluggish. Big dealers will always try and put one of these off on anyone they can. The CRF250F or CRF230F are trailbikes and are a BAD IDEA!!

Second, The 4 stroke 250 is most likely too big and too much power for a kid weighing 110lbs. We have one now, and there is no way a kid that small is going to be able to ride it comfortably.  ***Note: He should be able to tip the bike over and pick it up completely by himself.

Depending on desired price or preference, YOU SHOULD GET:

CRF150R   (4 stroke ) The Best Bike on the market for your son's size, hands down. Only issue is the price is pretty high, even used. This he should grow into quickly, but not grow out of too fast. It has the perfect amount of power to keep up with him for quite a while.

KX100  (2 stroke)  Great size bike with just the right amount of power. If you are trying to keep the cost down, buying this slightly used is a great bargin. Perfect size; bigger than an 85, but smaller than a 125.

If your son is still to small or intimidated by these bikes, he may prefer a 2 stroke CR85. Smaller size, but still enough power to give a thrilling ride.

If you buy a 4 stroke 250, it will be too heavy for him to handle for quite a while, and it will take a long time for him to grow into(may risk looking intrest altogether).  I spent a long time looking for a bike bigger than a 85, but smaller than a 125 or 250f and these are what I came up with. Just watch buying a bike, because dealers will try and put their most expensive bike off on you, regardless of your sons size. If you have any questions please ask; I only wish someone would have told me this when I was in that spot.

  2. Depends what brands.

Honda, by far makes the best.

I recommend the following models by Honda.

    Crf-150f

    Crf-230f

    or Yamaha TTR-230L

My friend, is 14, 120lbs, and 5'8 and hes got a Crf-250f 4 stroke and it scares the **** out of him.

  3. Depends on his skill and maturity, not how big he is really.
