  1. My son did this too--I told him that we couldn't go anywhere because if we did, the police would take me away. (It actually worked...)  If we're going somewhere exciting for him (the zoo, the park), I tell him we're not going anywhere until he buckles up.

  2. My friends little girls were really bad about this we tried the mommy will go to jail bit. Finally we took them to the police station (small town) and had a police officer come talk to them. It worked!

  3. You can not add anything to a carseat that did not come with the seat.

You can put self adhesive velcro (the sharper part) on the buttons that undo the chest clip.  Just a small amount so that your son doesn't like the texture, but you can still open it.

Make sure the harness is nice and tight and the chest clip is at armpit level.

  4. My son started to do this too, I've been looking for something to prevent this as well he undid both of them a few weeks ago and got out of his seat!! Luckily I was at a red light, but i've been paranoid taking him anywhere now. Please let me know if you find something, and i'll do the same for you.

  5. I dont know what kind of car seat u have but my daughter use to do this all the time.  We took the latch off of the straps and put it back on so the button you push to undue the latch was against her shirt she never figured that out. I guess that would work if you have a button the front of the latch.

  6. Apparently they DO Make some security devices to ADD to the car seat strap - so check online or at the local Babys-R-Us store.  I've known lots of kids who do this and there's no way to STOP THEM - you've just got to make it IMPOSSIBLE for them to do it anymore.

  7. TRY PULLING ANOTHER BUCKLE ACROSS HIS SEAT. JUST IN CASE HE UNBUCKLES THE CAR SEAT ONE, SO YOU HAVE MORE TIME TO STOP AND FIX THE PROBLEM. YOU DO NEED TO TEACH HIM NOT TO DO IT SO YOU DONT HAVE THE PROBLEM AT ALL. I DONT KNOW OF ANYTHING THAT WILL PREVENT HIM FROM DOING THIS. GOOD LUCK!

  8. My son did this couple of times ...

How old is he ? If he does this and you do not have anything else holding him (like no lap buckle) then try and stop as soon as possible in any parking lot next ... put the buckle and say to him  in firm voice "Do NOT touch the clip" ....then explain to him ...if he takes out the buckle he will fall down from the seat and hurt himself...warn him ..if he does it one more time he WE ARE GOING HOME.

if he continues. ..next time take him home and give a timeout or something ....whichever thing works..and remind him that..

you may have to do this a couple of times if he has really been used to that...

but he needs to know that IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE under any condition ....

Another thing is ...give him something that keeps him busy ...like a new toy or a doodle pad which he can enjoy

If he old enough to understand ...Another idea is put a RED DOT STICKER on the clip ...and explain to him that ...anything with that kind of sticker.he should not be thouching/opening..rest HE CAN ....this might work with other stuff and home as well...for my son i just had to point to him things he cannot touch...but also make sure to point to him things he can touch like window or the handle etc ..

For my son ...i had to just warn him and explained that he might get hurt ..thats all...but i know no 2 kids are the same :-)
