My son was 17 when he left for bootcamp and barely 18 when serving in Iraq. Was given 2 Army accomodation awards for extraordinary service. Upon coming home found his wife cheating and was car-jacked and left for dead. Captain thinks he needs to deal with those issues now he is recommending a general discharge. He says it will not be a black mark against my son and he can have it upgraded to an honorable discharge in 6 months. I am trying to find out if this is true or not. I don't want to see him lied to or misinformed. He won't be released until sometime around October 1st or so. He IS VERY AWARE of consequences and is a good kid but does have a lot on his plate. Captain seems to be honest....just trying to get a clear picture on what a general discharge really will mean and how will it affect my son.

"Now it is time for him to learn that there is consequences to his actions as an adult."
"Your son is a man now so it is time to love him but let him grow up and learn from whatever he did to jack up his own life..."
Don't be stupid... the poster didn't ask you for parental advice on how to raise his son. He 'did' ask a good question about what his son can expect. How about hopping down from the holier than though pedestal and lose the condescending attitude. Post like yours make me wonder who you think you are??? Geez
I found this posting b/c I am looking for information that will help shed light on my daughter's fiance's Discharge situation. I think I'll just move onto the next posting...
