My son is failing math class?

My son is 15, and right now is at 23% in math. He goes to tutorial and gets extra help every day. His teacher told me he does not understand any of the things they are learning in class, algebra, geometry, or any of it. My son said while the teacher is showing everyone, its like she is speaking in another language to him. He will have to repeat grade 9 math next year.

I cannot help him in his math, I do not understand it, and his father and I are divorced and his brain is completely fried from doing acid when he was young.

What can I possibly do to prevent him from repeating grade 9 math for the 3rd time?

WELL HELLO ITS ME AGAIN THE MOM WITH A SON WHO FAILED GRADE NINE MATH. A LITTLE UP DATE, I WISH I HAD GOOD NEWS BUT IT HAS GOTTEN MUCH MUCH WORSE.  MY SON NOW IS FAILING ENGLISH AND HAVING DIFFICULTIES WITH SCIENCE, NOT A FAIL, YET!  BUT A CONCERN. HERE'S THE THING HE IS NOW A VERY ANGRY CHILD, HE TELLS ME HATES ME, THAT HE WISHED I WAS'NT AROUND, A f*****g b***h WELL YOU GET THE PICTURE. WHEN I FOUND OUT HE WAS NOT DOING SO WELL IN ENGLISH I BOUGHT THE BOOK THAT THEY ARE READING IN SCHOOL, TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD, READ UP TO THE CHAPTER THEY WERE AT IN SCHOOL ANSWERED THE QUESTIONS THE TEACHER GAVE THEM IN SCHOOL. I TOLD MY SON WE COULD READ IT TOGERHER OR I COULD READ TO HIM AND WE ANSWER THE QUESTIONS TOGERHER. HE SEEMED TO BE ON BOARD BUT WHEN I STARTED TO READ THE BOOK TO HIM AND I WAS ONLY ON THE THIRD PAGE HE STARTED TO FALL ASLEEP, IT WAS'NT LATE OR ANYTHING. SO I TALKED TO HIM ABOUT IT AND HIS ANSWER IS HE JUST DOES'NT f*****g CARE. HE HATES THE BOOK AND HATES SCHOOL. WELL JUST SO YOU KNOW I DID TAKE AWAY ALL THAT HE LOVES X BOX, I POD HOCKEY ETC HE DOES'NT CARE. HE REALLY SEEMS TO HATE ME. MORE IMPORTANTLY I'M WORRIED HE MAY JUST DROP OUT OF SCHOOL AT SOME POINT. I HAVE ALREADY TRIED A COUNSLER HE WON'T TALK. I HIRED A PRIVATE TUROR WHO IS A RETIRED TEACHER, BUT WON'T PUT IN THE TIME.  YES, I EVEN THOUGHT MAYBE DRUGS, NO. HE HAS LOT'S OF FRIENDS AND THEY ARE ALL DOING REALLY WELL IN SCHOOL AND ARE GOOD KIDS. RIGHT NOW I REALLY DON'T CARE TO AROUND MY SON, DON'T GET ME WRONG I STILL LOVE HIM BUT HE IS REALLY HARD TO BE AROUND HE SAYS REALLY CRUEL AND HURTFULL THINGS. I BELEIVE IT'S A CRY FOR HELP BUT I REALLY DON'T NO WHAT ELSE TO DO. IN CASE YOUR WONDERING HE DOES HAVE A FATHER IN HIS LIFE, BUT WHEN MY SON WAS FOUR HIS FATHER WAS IN A CAR ACCINDENT AND HAS SUFFERED A BRAIN INJURY AND IS DOING WELL BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THIS STUFF HE JUST IS NOT ABLE TO HELP. HE DID GO TO HIS HOCKEY GAMES AND TALK TO HIM BUT HE JUST DOES'NT HAVE THE COGNITIVE ABILITIES TO HELP. HIS TEACHER SAY HE HAS NO BEHAVIOUR PROMBLEMS AT SCHOOL AND HE IS VERY RESPECTFULL, IS ENGLISH TEACHER SAY'S I THINK HE IS JUST NOT DOING THE WORK AND WHEN HE DOES HE IS TRYING TO DO THE BARE MINIMUM TO GET BY. HIS TECH TEACHER SAY'S HE A GREAT STUDENT AND DOING REALLY WELL BUT CHATS A LITTLE BUT NOTHING TO  BE WORRIED ABOUT. HE HAS TO REPEAT GRADE NINE MATH I JUST DON'T WANT TO SEE HIM HAVE TO DO ANY OTHER CLASSES. I REALLY DON'T NO WHAT TO DO, AT THIS POINT I THINK I WOULD TRY JUST ABOUT ANYTHING.

Wow, I'm having the same promblem with my son. In grade 8 he got mostly As or solid B pluse, now he can't pass a single test, I'm talking 9 out of 58. I just don't no what to do. He goes to math help but it is the same teacher there that teaches his math class, and there is no one on one. The schools answer is for him to drop down to applied next year, as the applied is full and there is no room for any more students, tell you something. I think the school system is letting these kids down. I know my boy could get it if some one would just spend the time with him. I can't because I never was good at math. All his other classes he passing with flying colours. He will be starting kumon, however this is a really long process and will not help him with school work.  I'm so frustrated that there really is no help for the kid who struggles unless maybe if you have learning disability and still sometimes not even then. I'm angry with teachers who only seem to teach to the kids who pick it up really quickly. My son does not get into any trouble is very polite and is very upset and losing confidence every day. Slowly I'm losing my boy who now calls himself stupid every day. its sad.
