  1. Not good, but probably won't matter unless he wants some sort of government or law enforcement job. I'm not sure that sucess in the military matters to most people these days like it did in the past.

  2. Depends...I could be bad if he wants a government job...

    Not all companies check...

He can contact a VA center and see if he is still able to receive any benefits. Sometimes you can under general...I think it depends on other factors.

He might try to appeal the discharge and have it upgraded to honorable. But he should contact a veterans group, VA and or lawyer for help on the technical matters.

  3. yes not totally this just means hes going down a level for example he was on level 7 then if he was discharged the put him in level 6

  4. Uhmmm...you may want to talk to your son and ask him what chapter is he REALLY getting.  There is no such thing as Chapter 3!  Army chapters begin at Chapter 4.

A General Discharge notes that the Soldier getting chapter was a sub-standard Soldier...if he were a good Soldier, he would receive an Honorable Discharge.  Chapter 3 of the AR 635-200 refers to the type of discharge certificate "Johnny" is going to receive, which you stated he will receive a General Discharge.

A General Discharge is not neccessarily bad, but it is not great either.  An Honorable discharge is GREAT.  A dishonorable discharge is bad...he is in between.

I have chaptered Soldiers out of the Army on various chapters, I am familiar with Chapter procedures.
