Can US embassy help him, or he has to go to Russian Embassy?

He lives in the US for 9 years. Recently he turn 18 years old.

He is a full time student in the US. If he go to Russian Embassy, are they going to issue a document, which allows returning only to Russia, or this document will be valid to return back to the US?

If he has to go back to Russia he may not be able to return in time because he is 18 and might be drafted in Russian Federation. Russian service will take 2 years and he might loose his US green card?

Should I advice him to avoid going outside the US until he will become citizen?

  1. Or at least a permanent resident.

  2. If your son loses his Russian passport, the Russians will have to replace it.  If they can't issue a passport (which is possible) they will be able to give him a temporary travel document that, together with his Green Card, will get him back to the US safely.
