  1. Instead of buying him brand new toys for his age... go to yard sales and check Craigslist.org in your local area for gently used toys.

Do his party at a park or someplace free.

Get birthday party supplies from a Dollar Tree or some other type of $1 dollar store.

Go to the store and see what you think he will like. So when people ask what to get you can tell them specifics.

  2. When my daughter was that age, she had alot of toys, but always found the box to be more entertaining. I would help her color or draw on a big box, and we could turn it into anything she wanted. We even got a huge box, and made it into a house, by cutting windows and doors out of it. It was fun for both of us to make, and she spent hours in it!

  3. Crayons are cheap and great. I put my son in his highchair to color (so he won't mark on the walls).

Going to the park is great, plus he gets to see big kids in action. At this age, climbing is good for him.

You should join freecycle.com. Sometimes, people give away their gently used toys on there.

  4. auction off some toys on ebay,

or sell them in the local news paper.

Then use the money for some new toys.

  5. You can make a tent by throwing a blanket over the table, playdoh is inexpensive, fingerpainting with pudding, crayons and coloring, stickers, you can hole punch holes in cardboard for him to lace, going to the park, banging on pots and pans with a wooden spoon, cutting with scissors, playing in water (kitchen sink), blocks are inexpensive I bought a 26 pc. of wooden 1" alphabet blocks  from target last week for 1 dollar.

  6. what you can do is buy a giant puzzle its big but few pieces and kids around that age would really like it you can also get him a giant coloring book at walmart target etc but mostly those places the coloring book would take a long time to finish i should know im 13 and i work with younger kids i decied to get one for myself and just to finish one paqe took me 2 days.&& im still working in the coloring book after abt 3 monthes now.

  7. Colouring, homemade playdough - 1 cup water, 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt, mixed together with a few drops of food colouring added. You can add a drop of oil to make it stick together a bit better. If it's too sloppy, heat it in a pan on low heat until it will hold it's shape. Outdoor walks - you can collect objects on the way, and create a collage of these when you get home, my boys love collecting feathers! Collect your old carboard boxes and plastic bottles, and create something! A cereal box and a yoghurt pot or two can make a great train with a little imagination and sticky tape!

Some swimming pools do offers on swim sessions, you might get in at a discount at a certain time of day. My kids love songs, so we have a 'song time' every now and then, where we sit down and sing a handful of our favourite songs. A saucepan and a wooden spoon makes a great drum to bang along with!

Look around for free parent toddler groups in your area. It's good for kids to mix with others their age, and nice if you can chat to other mums too!

  8. take him to the park or someplace kids will like

  9. The cheapest fun I have found involves water. Supervise him carefully as you give him a big mixing bowl of water, measuring cups, measuring spoons, other safe kitchen items that may float or scoop.

Show him what baking soda and vinegar do when mixed (they fizz like crazy)--if you have a linoleum kitchen floor, this has the added bonus of cleaning your floor, too!

Take him to neighborhood playgrounds, or if you can afford the transportation, a playground outside of your area that is new and exciting.

Take packages from food, like cereal boxes and Pringles cans and play grocery store. Have him check the items as the shopper or the cashier, and use fake paper money and/or real pennies to pay.

Most cities have museums that are free the first x of each month, where x is a day of the week, like Wednesday. Search your newspaper or the internet for your area's free days.

Bubbles, sand, balloons are all fairly inexpensive toys.
